One Stardew Valley NPC Should Be a Blueprint for Haunted Chocolatier

In a world where the supernatural is not hidden but openly present, the game called Stardew Valley features friendly beings like Junimos helping repair the town and a wizard selling magical items. The developer ConcernedApe’s upcoming project, Haunted Chocolatier, will delve deeper into this supernatural realm, with ghosts assisting players in managing their chocolatier. As a result, Haunted Chocolatier may introduce friendly NPCs like the one found in Stardew Valley (Dwarf), but these could be supernatural entities living in hidden places and speaking languages unknown to humans that players will need to learn to comprehend.

The Dwarf Is One Of Stardew Valley’s Most Unique NPCs

Instead of dwelling in Pelican Town like many other NPCs, the Dwarf resides in a hidden chamber on the ground floor of Stardew Valley’s mines. At first, this area is sealed off with rock that can be broken open using a Steel Pickaxe or any explosive item such as Cherry Bombs dropped by Rock Crabs and Duggys.

To make friends with the Dwarves, just getting there isn’t sufficient. Since they only converse in Dwarvish, players need to acquire a Dwarvish Translation Guide first. This guide can be obtained by gathering all four Dwarf Scrolls, which are scattered randomly among the monsters or as rewards for tilling in the Mines. These scrolls must then be donated to the Museum before the Guide becomes available. Once players have obtained the Guide, they can engage in conversations with the Dwarf, raise their friendship level by exchanging pleasantries and giving gifts.

One of the unique supernatural characters a player can develop friendship with includes the Dwarf, along with the Wizard and Krobus, the shadowy entity. Unlike the other two, the Dwarf is rather enigmatic as they have limited interactions, with only one heart event available for the player. Unlike Krobus, who can be invited to live on the farm, the Dwarf does not offer this option.

Haunted Chocolatier Should Double Down On Both Nonhuman Friends And Multi-Step Character Unlocks

The enigmatic Chocolatier could find creative influence from the Dwarf character in Stardew Valley in two distinct ways:

1. Introducing nonhuman characters that players can form friendships with, similar to the Dwarf.
2. Designing NPCs who cannot be initially approached or spoken to without meeting certain conditions, such as:
– Characters residing within locked rooms or buildings, requiring the player to acquire a specific key or item before interaction.
– Creatures that can only be interacted with after the player has learned a particular skill or spell.

The use of alternative languages like Dwarvish for these NPCs would add an interesting layer to the gameplay experience. The challenging “double unlock” puzzle of the Dwarf, which necessitates an upgraded pickaxe and all four Dwarf Scroll artifacts, could serve as a valuable strategy for Haunted Chocolatier when it comes to introducing late-game NPCs.

In addition to humans, let’s make nonhuman characters significant in the game “Haunted Chocolatier”. It would add an interesting twist if players could form friendships with the ghostly coworkers they encounter. However, this interaction should not be the only aspect of the game. We could introduce more dwarves, as it appears they have a bustling community, similar to the unique dwarf in “Stardew Valley”. Creator ConcernedApe can feel free to expand on existing fantasy races, such as Krobus the shadowy character and the cute Junimos with their apple-inspired designs from “Stardew Valley”, to make the game even more engaging.

Nonhuman NPCs Should Have Interactions And Relationships

One intriguing aspect of the backstory in Stardew Valley involves the tension between dwarves and shadow people. The dwarf harbors resentment towards Krobus due to the death of their family, creating an initially hostile dynamic. However, the Wizard in Stardew Valley manages to broker peace by highlighting that individuals aren’t to blame for the actions of their entire race. This conflict is mainly portrayed in a single Heart Event cutscene. The Haunted Chocolatier could develop this theme further by introducing non-human NPCs with existing relationships, whether friendly or hostile. In this game, players might even have the opportunity to mediate peace among these characters themselves.
