After a long wait filled with excitement from dedicated Nintendo enthusiasts, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is set to be launched. First unveiled at the 2017 Nintendo E3 showcase, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond experienced a prolonged lull before resurfacing during a Nintendo Direct session last year. Projected for a 2025 release, dedicated Nintendo fans will finally have the opportunity to experience the next installment in Samus Aran’s tale, an adventure that promises to be a fitting farewell for the Nintendo Switch.
Last year during its initial gameplay demonstration, there was significant focus on the primary antagonist of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Sylux. A character who made an appearance towards the end of the last installment, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, gamers will finally witness Samus battling this rogue bounty hunter in the upcoming game. However, it’s important to note that Sylux should not be the sole villain in this new release, and the team at Retro Studios should ensure they don’t overlook the franchise’s most renowned adversary.
Sylux Shouldn’t Be Metroid Prime 4’s Only Big Bad
Metroid Prime 4 Should Bring Ridley Into The Fray
In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, it would be exciting to see the infamous antagonist from the Metroid series, Ridley, make an appearance. Despite typically serving as a secondary adversary, Ridley has earned his status as the most formidable enemy in the franchise due to his role in the death of Samus’ parents and the destruction of her home planet, K-2L.
In Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Samus managed to defeat Ridley, which might suggest that he won’t be a part of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. However, given his recurring appearances in games set after Corruption within the Metroid series like Metroid: Samus Returns and Super Metroid, there’s a strong chance Nintendo and Retro Studios could reintroduce this formidable Space Pirate in the upcoming game.
Ridley Is Too Iconic To Be Forgotten In Metroid Prime 4
As a die-hard Metroid fan, it feels like Ridley’s iconic presence is almost guaranteed in the upcoming “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.” You see, Ridley has been a staple character in nearly every Metroid game, and he’s made an appearance in each numbered Metroid Prime game except for “Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.” It seems like this guy just can’t stay away, setting a pattern that makes me think we might see him again in this new installment.
Though Ridley was defeated in the game “Metroid Prime 3: Corruption”, the character has been recreated multiple times in various other games within the franchise. In fact, in the initial “Metroid Prime” game, Ridley was portrayed as Meta-Ridley and then underwent a transformation into Omega-Ridley in “Metroid Prime 3: Corruption”. Given this history, it’s plausible that Ridley could be cloned into a new form when the next game is released.
In Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Samus managed to defeat Ridley. This battle might lead some to think that Ridley won’t appear in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. However, there are strong indications suggesting that he may reappear in the upcoming game.
Ridley’s Return In Metroid Prime 4 Doesn’t Need To Be A Boss Fight
In the upcoming game Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, it’s possible that Ridley might not engage in a traditional boss battle. Instead, the developers, Retro Studios, could delve deeper into his backstory. Since the game is set before Ridley’s encounters in Metroid: Samus Returns and Super Metroid, they can utilize Samus’ pirate scanning abilities to reveal how Ridley managed to survive after the Phazon incident. There’s ample opportunity for storytelling within the Metroid franchise regarding Ridley, even if he doesn’t physically appear in the game itself.
In the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, fans will get to witness Samus’ fight against Sylux, hinted at in the finale of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. However, it’s crucial for Retro Studios not to make Sylux the sole antagonist in this new installment. Whether through an epic boss battle or by weaving Ridley into the game’s backstory, they should ensure that the classic foe Ridley is also given due attention.
