Get Ready to Feel Like a Soccer Star: Sloclap’s Game Rematch is Changing the Game!

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t wait to dive into Sloclap’s latest creation, “Rematch.” This soccer game promises to redefine my gaming experience with its lightning-fast, fashionable 5v5 gameplay. The team behind the action-packed games “Absolver” and “Sifu” really shook things up when they unveiled this title, as many assumed we were getting another fighting game. However, it seems that “Rematch” has managed to hold onto some of “Sifu’s” unique elements, aiming to captivate a diverse group of gamers like me.

In a chat with Game Rant, Sloclap’s Creative Director Pierre Tarno shared insights on the fundamental features of Rematch. He highlighted how this indie game manages to avoid fantasy elements, despite its high-energy, exaggerated action scenes. While it’s sure to captivate soccer enthusiasts, Tarno emphasized that individuals who aren’t typically into soccer or soccer video games are also likely to enjoy playing Rematch.

Rematch is Not Aiming to Be a Realistic Football Simulation

The trailer for “Rematch” showcases a captivating mix of visuals, echoing the art style found in “Sifu,” while also featuring fast-paced, flamboyant soccer gameplay on the field. Awe-inspiring shots of powerful goals and a massive scoreboard at each end of the field evoke memories of the competitive, arcade-style vehicular soccer game “Rocket League.” However, it’s important to note that “Rematch” doesn’t delve deeply into fantasy elements; rather, it balances the line between arcade-style action and realism, as explained by the developer, Tarno.

It’s worth mentioning that Rematch doesn’t include any fantasy elements; we strive for a gaming experience that is both believable and grandiose. While credibility differs from realism, our objective isn’t to develop a realistic football simulator. Rather, our design decisions are guided by the game’s feel and the richness of its mechanics. Creating an immersive feeling of being a top-notch athlete is one of the main development principles for this game.

Rematch isn’t Just For Soccer Fans

For a long time, the soccer gaming scene has been ruled by the FIFA series and EA FC. A fresh, non-traditional soccer game could draw a significant following among those who are becoming weary of EA FC’s yearly updates that often bring only minor visual and gameplay enhancements instead of introducing entirely new mechanics or features. However, Tarno emphasized that Sloclap isn’t solely focusing on the existing fanbase of soccer games as their primary audience. Instead, he clarified:

– They are considering a broader demographic beyond the current soccer gaming enthusiasts.

It’s important to mention that although Rematch might appeal more to football enthusiasts, it’s not necessary to be one to enjoy it. In fact, among our development team, there are several members who aren’t avid football fans, yet they still find pleasure in playing Rematch! fundamentally, Rematch is about the delight of playing football with friends. We can’t wait to see players joining forces and having a great time together!

It’s intriguing to see a studio venturing into sports games for the first time with “Rematch”. They’ve shown courage by not sticking to what they know, and instead focusing on a project that obviously ignites their enthusiasm. Sloclap’s focus on seamless player movement and immersion suggests a unique, refreshing approach to soccer gaming, making it an exciting prospect for friends to play together when “Rematch” hits the shelves later this year.

The game titled “Rematch” is scheduled for launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S during summer 2025. If you’re interested, you can sign up for the beta testing phase right here.
