In the previous year, Sony tarnished its community standing by taking a controversial stance: in order to play Helldivers 2, it was essential to possess an active PlayStation Network account. Unfortunately, if your country happens to be among the 118 where PlayStation Network is unavailable, that’s a predicament you have to deal with.
Since its launch, the post-release phase of Helldivers 2 has faced numerous challenges, most of which are not directly connected. Given the magnitude of criticism, many players had high hopes that upcoming blockbuster titles like The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered on PC would no longer require a PSN account. However, those expectations were sadly squashed last week.
Although it wasn’t unexpected, there’s a touch of optimism accompanying the feeling of letdown now, as Sony is planning to release the game ‘Lost Soul Aside‘ on both PlayStation and personal computers.
It appears that the disclaimer requiring PSN account linking for the game, which was previously present on the Lost Soul Aside Steam page, has been removed recently. This change happened just a day after the unveiling of the newest gameplay trailer.
First Impressions Matter
Ultizero Games is developing the game titled ‘Lost Soul Aside’, which bears a striking resemblance to ‘Devil May Cry’ in terms of its combat system. Originally, this independent project was introduced to the public eight years ago and later caught the attention of Sony’s China Hero Project.
For enthusiasts who’ve been eagerly waiting, the dynamic gameplay and intricate stage designs of “Lost Soul Aside” promise a thrilling experience, with its official release potentially arriving in 2025 according to the developers.
It’s possible that the absence of the PlayStation Network (PSN) requirement is merely coincidental, given that very few Sony-published PC games have been exempt from this requirement.
There’s optimism that the game Lost Soul Aside could serve as a trial ground for a future in which Sony games on PC don’t necessitate intrusive linking.
The remastered version of “The Last of Us Part 2” for PC will be released in April 2025, and as with previous announcements, it requires an account on Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN). Similarly, “Helldivers 2,” which was launched in February 2024, maintained the same requirement despite some backlash from the public.
It is never too late to impart positive change, but whether Sony wants to is a different story.
