Previously known PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida is unveiled as one of the voice actors for the upcoming indie game “Promise Mascot Agency.” This news follows his departure from Sony Corporation on January 15, 2025, marking the end of a 31-year tenure with the company.
For devoted followers, Shuhei Yoshida’s name is synonymous with PlayStation, given his significant contributions to the brand during his long tenure. Starting at Sony in 1993, a year prior to the launch of the original PlayStation, Yoshida held various key positions throughout his career at this console powerhouse. His roles ranged from overseeing SIE Worldwide Studios (later known as PlayStation Studios) for more than ten years to advocating for indie games in his final role, starting in 2019 as the head of PlayStation Indies. After announcing his retirement planned for November 2024, Yoshida expressed a desire to try voice acting in video games. Now, it appears that he has already made this a reality.
In a recently unveiled trailer, the Promise Mascot Agency announced that Yoshida has given his voice to one of their characters, MonouGe, an arcade owner and gaming aficionado. This well-known figure in the gaming world is perfectly suited to this role as suggested by the developers. Besides Yoshida, other notable figures in gaming are part of Promise Mascot Agency’s voice acting lineup. Takaya Kuroda, known for his portrayal of Kazuma Kiryu from the Like a Dragon series, plays the primary playable character, Michi. Furthermore, Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro assumes the role of Kannushi-kun in the game; Ayano Shibuya, who voiced Purah in the latest Legend of Zelda games, plays Pinky; and Eri Saito, famous for her work on Chainsaw Man, voices Matriarch Shimazu.
Ex-PlayStation Chief Turns Voice Actor for New Indie Game
Following his role as a playable character in “Super Time Force Ultra” back in 2014, Shuhei Yoshida will add a voice acting credit to his video game resume in the 2025 release of “Promise Mascot Agency”. This open-world adventure game transports players to a haunted town where they can gather mascots, train them, and accomplish various missions using them to become the top agency. The game is being developed by British studio Kaizen Game Works and will be available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
Considering Yoshida’s open admission of his fondness for independent video games, it’s not unexpected that his post-PlayStation position involves an indie game project. The intriguing part moving forward is how Sony will manage its independent games division following Yoshida’s exit, especially since projects like the PlayStation Hero Project are ongoing in various regions worldwide.
