Effective game design always includes impactful music. No matter how enjoyable or thrilling a game may be, if it’s played without any music, it simply won’t create the same level of excitement.
One effective method for enhancing the gaming experience is incorporating a triumphant melody as a win theme, a tune that truly underscores your accomplishment. Such melodies can be played not only just before but also right after your victory.
As a gamer, when it’s the former scenario, it pumps me up for that final surge before claiming victory. When it’s the latter, it’s like a breath of fresh air; congrats on playing superbly well. No matter where I play, these moments are my signal that I’ve performed admirably and with finesse.
In an attempt to provide examples for these tracks when feasible, we have made our utmost effort. However, please note that many of these tracks originate from Nintendo, who have a reputation for taking legal action regarding their intellectual property. Consequently, you’ll need to find those samples on your own.
10. Victory Fanfare
Final Fantasy
One of the most recognizable and longstanding victory tunes might be the iconic theme associated with the Final Fantasy series, a series theme that has stood the test of time.
In just about every game from this series, whether they’re serious or not, you’ll find this tune popping up somewhere. If it’s not playing after a fight, you can bet your boots it’ll be echoing elsewhere. Take Final Fantasy XV for example; you’ll catch the melody after setting up camp there.
In my opinion, the most instrumentally rich rendition of this tune can be traced back to its appearance in Final Fantasy VII. Admittedly, it was still MIDI music at the time, but the depth and richness of the backing instruments were unparalleled up until then.
9. Shine Get!
Super Mario Sunshine
In our memories, shaped by Super Mario Sunshine on the GameCube, one particular tune stands out – the melody that echoes when you collect a Shine Sprite. It’s worth noting that this catchy theme song is just one of many victory tunes associated with the various Mario games.
This tropical, island-inspired motif provides a delightful twist to the commonly encountered “you’ve found something” melody that usually plays in 3D platformer games.
As a devoted fan, I can’t express enough how refreshing and relieving it feels to listen to this tune, especially following some particularly challenging parts of Sunshine’s program. The soothing melody seems to erase all tension and bring a sense of peace that words alone cannot convey.
8. Victory Lies Before You!
Pokemon Black & White
In contemporary Pokemon games, the music during Gym Leader battles changes dynamically. As the battle progresses, these tunes gradually become more thrilling until they reach a climactic peak just as the Leader’s final Pokemon enters the fray.
These themes are fantastic, but credit is due to the initial pairing of Pokémon, Black & White, for employing this trick: When you reduced a Gym Leader’s Pokémon down to their last one, an energetic and victorious rendition of the main Pokémon theme would sound.
This topic served as a powerful boost, propelling you towards a triumphant end. However, it’s worth noting that another distinct melody from the same game, the one associated with low health, holds more priority. It can quickly dampen your victory mood.
7. Pressing Pursuit ~ Cornered
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
In the Ace Attorney series, you’ll find a rich variety of sounds, ranging from melodies fitting different scenarios inside and outside the courtroom. The courtroom tunes themselves span from contemplative, investigative melodies to abrupt, surprising twists.
In the second scenario, the standout melody from the collection is the one that sounds when you’ve cornered the suspect with no escape, leaving them speechless.
As a gaming enthusiast, each installment in the series offers a unique twist on its soundtracks, but nothing beats the legendary Cornered theme from the first game. I still remember how electrifying that techno remix was when Phoenix made his entrance in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 – it’s a moment I’ll never forget!
6. Victory Dance
Kirby’s Dream Land
As a seasoned gamer, I’ve always found Kirby to be a remarkably versatile little critter. He’s got an impressive knack for explosives, knows his way around some high-tech weaponry, has a questionable but charming musical side, and it turns out he can even bust a move like a pro breakdancer.
Since the initial introduction of Kirby in Kirby’s Dream Land, he has commemorated each boss defeat with a spontaneous act of self-replication and a grand, melodious dance performance.
As a dedicated Kirby fan, you can count on me to emphasize that the theme and dance are essential elements in every single Kirby game I play, as well as every appearance he makes. It’s not just the games; even in my Super Smash Bros. battles, a triumphant Kirby moment isn’t complete without the melodious tune and delightful dance playing out, period.
5. Level Clear
Sonic Adventure
As a die-hard Sonic fan, I’ve got to say that Sonic the Hedgehog has graced us with two iconic victory tunes throughout his gaming career. The very first one was unveiled in the original Genesis game and managed to stick around even in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
As a gamer, I first encountered a significant theme in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, but it wasn’t until Sonic Adventure that this secondary tune underwent a massive transformation, becoming the central melody we now know and love.
Due to its more sophisticated hardware, the theme’s arrangement on the Dreamcast was amplified using powerful horns and drums. This dynamic sound has since remained the iconic style for this song, persisting well into modern times.
4. Victorious Roar
Okami
As a devoted admirer, I’d say that Amaterasu from Okami is more than just the goddess of sunlight; she embodies the fierce spirit of a wolf as well. When she vanquishes a formidable adversary, her primal instincts surge, unleashing a raw and untamed energy.
After winning against the Spider-Queen, at Issun’s encouragement, Ammy releases a triumphant roar. This is followed by a potent victory melody, infused with traditional Japanese flair.
While the tune isn’t exceptionally striking by itself, when paired with Ammy’s howl and the radiant glow of the sun, it’s impossible not to experience a hint of that warmth in your spirit.
3. Battle Win And Result
Splatoon
Even though Splatoon is still new compared to other Nintendo franchises, it has successfully found a place among them. One key factor contributing to its longevity is the consistently high-quality music that the series provides.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but notice that among all the exceptional tunes, the one that resonates most (or least, contingent on one’s proficiency) is the victory theme. Surprisingly, this isn’t just one song, it’s actually two: the first one starts immediately after Judd unveils the winner, and the second one follows closely afterwards.
Regardless of meaning, the fleeting pause while Judd and Lil’ Judd were tallying the scores amplifies the delight in hearing the applause from the Inklings and the new music.
Or:
Ignoring the specifics, the short period of doubt as Judd and Lil’ Judd computed the points makes the sound of cheering Inklings and fresh beats even more enjoyable.
2. Boss Defeated
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
It’s fascinating that despite the consistent elements like acquiring items or locating the Master Sword in the Legend of Zelda series, the victory themes tend to vary quite a bit among the games. Each installment usually features a distinct theme.
Among all options, it’s fair to say that the tune that most embodies the sensation of “defeating a colossal beast” is the one heard in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
In this piece, a profound symphony blends with a robust chorus, extolling the virtues of the valiant character, Link. To add flair, each battle in the game concludes with a striking sword move followed by sheathing, synchronizing seamlessly with the music’s theme.
1. Tables Turn
The Wonderful 101
As a fan, I found “Tables Turn” from The Wonderful 101 to be an unusual yet captivating addition among other themes. At first glance, it might appear specialized compared to some others. However, after listening to it for the first time, it left such an impact that it’s impossible not to remember it.
In most significant battles within the game, each boss features distinctive combat music. Once you’ve defeated them decisively and pushed them into a tight spot, the tune “Tables Turn” will start to play instead.
This melody underscores the extraordinary acts of bravery by The Wonders, and it’s typically thrilling and filled with action throughout.
