Initially, it might appear as though the fighting in Hyper Light Breaker is cumbersome. The lock-on feature isn’t top-notch, and when enemies swarm from all sides during your initial forays into the Overgrowth, you may find yourself struggling to stay alive. However, with a few character deaths under your belt, you’ll quickly discern that there’s a depth to the game’s combat mechanics that isn’t immediately apparent.
In this game, there are two methods provided for reducing damage: Parrying and Dodging. While Dodging might seem simpler for avoiding blows, learning to Parry can unlock various bonuses specifically designed around Parries within the game. This tutorial aims to provide the fundamentals of Parrying in Hyper Light Breaker, helping you excel in the game’s combat system.

How to Parry in Hyper Light Breaker
In the game Hyper Light Breaker, parrying is quite simple. Just tap the Parry key when an enemy’s attack connects to dodge the blow. If timed correctly, you can stun smaller opponents and even regain some Red Health as a reward.
The default buttons are Q on the keyboard and B on the controller.
The key lies in observing the enemy’s actions meticulously. In almost every strike within Hyper Light Breaker, timing is crucial for a successful parry. Once your adversary begins to attack, you’ll notice a subtle glow. That’s when you should press the parry button promptly.
Parry vs. Dodge: What’s the Difference
Mastering the art of parrying demands perfect timing, but dodging is simpler; essentially, you can repeatedly press the dodge key to evade enemy attacks and move towards safety. When an enemy horde overwhelms you, keep holding down the dodge button to trigger the Hoverboard and make a swift escape.
Avoiding an attack momentarily provides temporary protection (or ‘invincibility’), giving your character a chance to escape danger. Keep an eye out for a purple aura surrounding your character when you dodge; this invincibility period is brief, but certain Holobytes can lengthen its duration.
Instead of iframes, parrying doesn’t provide any sort of time shields. It’s all about timing; if it’s off, you’ll absorb the entire attack’s damage. However, mastering a perfect parry allows you to restore some Red Health on your health meter. Additionally, you can momentarily stun an enemy with a well-timed parry, possibly setting up a Flash Step attack for a potential kill.
To kill an opponent, approach them when they’re slightly off-balance, then hit the prompting button that appears next to their Health Meter.
In the game Hyper Light Breaker, certain tools and battle accessories have extra advantages that trigger upon successful parrying or defeating an opponent. Mastering the art of perfect timing with your parries will enable you to engage these benefits, amplifying your offensive power.
In the game, Vermillion, our main character, gains an armor boost each time he successfully parries with the help of his Tank Sycom perk. Mastering the art of parrying will enable him to wear both Heavy and Medium Armors. However, these armors carry a penalty on your dashing ability, which could lead to more hits if you’ve been primarily using dodging till now.
Upgrading the Parry
In contrast to dodging, enhancing parrying in Hyper Light Breaker can be done at your main base. To access the Reflector perk in the Tier 2 segment of the upgrade tree, simply converse with Pherus Bit located in the Cursed Outpost.
With this upgrade, you can deflect incoming attacks right back at the attacker. Timing is crucial! If timed correctly, the deflected projectile will inflict an additional 10% damage for every point you’ve invested in this skill. This means you could even take out ranged enemies with a single hit if your parry skills are on point. So, if you’ve got a good stock of Golden Ration and have mastered the parry mechanic, this upgrade is worth considering.
You can parry bullets without the perk, but you can’t deflect the projectile.
The game Hyper Light Breaker might not provide sufficient guidance during the initial stages, making it somewhat challenging for novice players. Learning the skill of parrying requires practice and a touch of persistence, but once mastered, you’ll effortlessly block all enemy attacks without fear of being struck.
