The news came from Lynch’s official page on Facebook, via his family.

With profound sadness, we, his family, share the news of David Lynch’s passing – both the man and the visionary artist he was. At this difficult time, we kindly ask for some privacy. It feels like a significant void has appeared in the world now that he’s gone. But, as he often reminded us, “Focus on the donut, not the hole.” Today is indeed a beautiful day, filled with golden sunlight and clear blue skies.

Four children make up Lynch’s family: two girls and two boys. In the realm of art, particularly filmmaking and video game design, he has served as a source of endless inspiration. He is an integral part of the cinematic world.

David Lynch Had Emphysema

Based on information from 2024, Lynch himself disclosed that he was diagnosed with emphysema, during an interview with Sight & Sound Magazine. However, specifics about his family’s response to this health update have not been made public.

Due to years of smoking, I’ve developed emphysema, which means I must stay at home for my health, regardless of my preferences. Even catching a common cold could pose serious risks for me.

He later clarified via his social accounts:

Ladies and Gentleman,

Absolutely, I’ve been a smoker for quite some time, and I can’t deny the deep affection I held for tobacco – the aroma, the act of lighting up, the satisfaction of each puff. But there’s always a cost to cherished pleasures, and in my case, it was emphysema. I quit smoking over two years ago, and I must say, it hasn’t been easy, but the rewards are worth it all.

Just recently, I underwent a series of tests, and while I’m thrilled to report that I’m in top-notch physical condition overall, there’s still emphysema lingering. Yet, this news doesn’t dampen my spirit. I’m filled with joy, and I’ve made up my mind – I won’t be retiring anytime soon.
