In the upcoming game, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” Yasuke and Naoe are expected to encounter numerous new characters on their journey through feudal Japan. Although much buzz has surrounded the two main protagonists ahead of the game launch, a recent artwork unveils several other figures, with only a handful of them having been identified thus far.
In the upcoming action RPG series installment titled “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” set to launch on March 20th, we find two main characters: Yasuke and Naoe. Yasuke is a real-life figure, renowned as the first black samurai who served under Oda Nobunaga, Japan’s initial “Great Unifier.” In contrast, Naoe’s background is purely fictional; however, her in-game father, Fujibayashi Nagato, was a genuine historical figure – a leader of the shinobi in the Iga province who opposed the Oda clan.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve been thrilled by the latest artwork unveiled on the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter account, offering intriguing glimpses into both protagonists and their respective clan leaders. The buzz surrounding Nobunaga’s potential role as the main antagonist in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is palpable, given his ominous presence across numerous video games, anime, and media platforms over the years. This new artwork seems to fuel this speculation even further, as Nobunaga, prominently displayed in the upper right corner of the group, commands a striking size, nearly equaling Yasuke and Naoe combined.
New Assassin’s Creed Origins Art Gives a Better Look At Its Characters
At the opposite edge of the picture, the father from Assassin’s Creed Origins, Naoe, is positioned, poised to unsheathe his sword in the lower right corner of the group. Unlike Nobunaga, who dominates the scene with his immense presence, Nagato is portrayed as being equal in size to the other seven characters at the image’s core. The game’s supporting cast isn’t well-known yet, but this artwork could offer a sneak peek into some of its other significant characters. Among the other figures are two shinobi armed with weapons, an elderly woman wearing a headwrap, and a spirited young boy, positioned at the bottom center.
In response to an image suggesting Nobunaga’s dominance over Japan in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, some Twitter users have criticized Ubisoft, claiming the image is a distraction from Yasuke. Since the main characters were unveiled, the game has faced numerous criticisms, ranging from accusations of poor diversity and inclusion to questions about Yasuke’s historical status as a samurai. Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, has dismissed these complaints as hateful and malicious, and the development team has delayed the game’s release from February 14 to ensure historical accuracy and enhance performance in response to these concerns.
