Characters With The Most Losses In Bleach Many characters in Bleach with extensive fight histories have high loss counts. Losses don’t necessarily diminish a character if they still secure important wins. Characters like Renji, Hisagi, and Ichigo have notable loss records, showcasing their growth. This list will only be taking into consideration the Bleach manga and additional fights that were added in the Thousand-Year Blood War anime; filler fights will not be counted. 8. Sajin Komamura – Number Of Losses: 3 – Manga Debut: Volume 10, Chapter 81 – Anime Debut: Episode 24 It’s hard to ever forget the moment the mighty Komamura was slashed to near-death by Aizen as a show of strength from the traitor during the Soul Society arc. He would restore his reputation late in the series with a valiant sacrifice that ended in defeat for Bambietta, but before that, Komamura had a solid run of losses that didn’t paint a great picture of his underlying strength. When trying to take down his old friend, Tosen, who had become corrupted by Aizen’s influence, Tosen’s mutations proved too much for Komamura to handle, eventually resulting in his Bankai being destroyed before the wolf-man himself lay defenseless on the ground. Aizen would also make quick work of Komamura not long after, though that’s not too big of an embarrassment considering how absurdly powerful his opponent was at the time. 7. Ikkaku Madarame – Number Of Losses: 3 – Manga Debut: Volume 10, Chapter 85 – Anime Debut: Episode 26 It’s not long after Ichigo enters the Soul Society that he runs into a luck-obsessed and shiny-headed lieutenant known as Ikkaku. This was Ichigo’s very first real test in the Soul Society arc, and it was one that he managed to pass, after an intense battle which saw Ikakku being cut down to size. Ikkaku would come back with a vengeance in the Arrancar arc after unleashing his Bankai, but he saw more losses in the final arc where he was only afforded a little bit of screen time. He was one of the several Soul Reapers who took a beating from Mask de Masculine, but he would also underestimate the sick and twisted Giselle who managed to scare Ikakku away with her zombies and bombs. 6. Rose – Number Of Losses: 4 – Manga Debut: Volume 24, Chapter 214 – Anime Debut: Episode 122 As a formidable member of the Vizard and a captain of the Gotei 13, Rojuro (or Rose as he’s commonly known) was presented as being a pretty formidable foe. His battles unfortunately didn’t reflect this, though, as after losing a brief skirmish to the number 1 Espada, Starrk, Rose would end up being handed what many consider to be the most humiliating defeat in the entire series against Mask de Masculine. Upon activating his flashy music-based Bankai, Rose decides to tell Mask exactly how his ability works, allowing his opponent to clog his ears, avoiding its effects entirely. All of the Soul Reapers had a tough time securing victories during the war against the Quincy, and this especially goes for the Captain of Squad 3. 5. Toshiro Hitsugaya – Number Of Losses: 4 – Manga Debut: Volume 10, Chapter 81 – Anime Debut: Episode 24 The child prodigy of the Gotei 13, Toshiro Hitsugaya, has a pretty mixed win to loss record overall. His losses usually come down to his lack of experience, since while Hitsugaya is one of the most naturally gifted captains who possess a devastating Bankai, he can still be a little naive, which would be the cause of his downfall in his two fights against Aizen, which didn’t end well for him. Hitsugaya also didn’t see much success in the Thousand-Year Blood War until the very end. After being obliterated by Bazz-B, Hitsugaya turned into a mindless zombie, receiving yet another loss, this time against his fellow captain, Mayuri. Similar to Ichigo, Hitsugaya learns from his losses and builds upon his skills and combat knowledge with

Summary

Even though a character has participated in numerous battles throughout the Bleach saga, it doesn’t automatically imply they have a high victory count. In reality, many individuals who have experienced multiple intense fights often accumulate more than a few defeats during their journey, regardless of their prowess or skill level as fighters.

It doesn’t really matter if a character has numerous defeats as long as they win when it truly matters. In fact, these losses can sometimes show growth and development for the character since their initial appearance in the story. However, for others, it can feel humiliating to see them go down so many times.

In my observations, I’m focusing solely on the battles depicted in the Bleach manga and the extra confrontations introduced in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc of the anime series. Fights that were merely added as fillers won’t be included in this analysis.

8. Sajin Komamura

Number Of Losses: 3

  • Manga Debut: Volume 10, Chapter 81
  • Anime Debut: Episode 24

I’ll never forget the chilling instant when the formidable Komamura was nearly killed by Aizen, a betrayer, to demonstrate his power during the Soul Society arc. Though he eventually regained his honor with a brave sacrifice that ultimately led to Bambietta’s defeat, earlier events portrayed a series of losses for Komamura, casting doubt on his hidden might.

In their confrontation with Tosen, who had been corrupted by Aizen, Tosen’s mutations proved overwhelming for Komamura, ultimately leading to the destruction of his Bankai and leaving him vulnerable on the ground. Shortly after, Aizen easily defeated Komamura, an outcome not so embarrassing given the immense power Aizen possessed during that time.

7. Ikkaku Madarame

Number Of Losses: 3

  • Manga Debut: Volume 10, Chapter 85
  • Anime Debut: Episode 26

Shortly after Ichigo steps into the Soul Society, he encounters Lieutenant Ikkaku, who is both fortune-focused and bald. This was the initial significant challenge for Ichigo within the Soul Society storyline, one that he overcame after an arduous fight that reduced Ikkaku to a smaller scale. In the Arrancar arc, Ikkaku returned with a fierce determination following the use of his Bankai, but he suffered more losses in the final arc where he had limited screen presence.

I witnessed several Soul Reapers receiving a tough fight from Mask de Masculine, yet they seemed to underestimate the eerie and malicious Giselle. Her use of zombies and explosives was enough to make even Ikakku flee in terror.

6. Rose

Number Of Losses: 4

  • Manga Debut: Volume 24, Chapter 214
  • Anime Debut: Episode 122

In his role as a powerful member of the Vizard and commander of the Gotei 13, Rose (often referred to as Rojuro) was portrayed as a formidable adversary. However, his battles didn’t live up to this image, as he suffered a quick skirmish against the top Espada, Starrk. Subsequently, many believe that he experienced one of the most embarrassing defeats in the entire series at the hands of Mask de Masculine.

When Rose turned on his dazzling music-infused Bankai, he chose to explain in detail to Mask how his power functioned. By blocking his ears, Mask was able to bypass its influence entirely. It was particularly difficult for the Soul Reapers to secure victories during their war against the Quincy, and this was especially true for the Captain of Squad 3.

5. Toshiro Hitsugaya

Number Of Losses: 4

  • Manga Debut: Volume 10, Chapter 81
  • Anime Debut: Episode 24

Toshiro Hitsugaya, the child prodigy among Gotei 13, has a record that shows both wins and losses. Most often, it’s his lack of practical experience that leads to his defeats. Although Hitsugaya is exceptionally talented as one of the most naturally gifted captains with an incredibly powerful Bankai, his youthful innocence can sometimes lead him into trouble, as demonstrated in his two unsuccessful encounters against Aizen, which didn’t fare well for him.

In the Thousand-Year Blood War, Hitsugaya struggled to find much victory until the very end. Following a crushing defeat at the hands of Bazz-B, Hitsugaya was transformed into a mindless zombie, adding another loss to his record, this time against his fellow captain, Mayuri. Just like Ichigo, Hitsugaya uses each defeat as an opportunity for learning and improvement in his abilities and battle tactics. Despite being defeated multiple times, he remains someone you wouldn’t want to upset.

4. Chad

Number Of Losses: 4

  • Manga Debut: Volume 1, Chapter 7
  • Anime Debut: Episode 2

Originally, Ichigo stated something like, “I could never envision Chad getting defeated.” However, it’s important to acknowledge that Chad indeed has faced losses, despite occasional victories such as against the Arrancar Gantenbainne. This fact is often overshadowed by his losses.

Before Shunsui easily defeated Chad in combat without much exertion, Chad’s friend Ichigo would later suffer a defeat at the hands of Shrieker, a Hollow. This encounter highlighted Chad’s inexperience and lack of finesse in one-on-one battles. Instead, Chad excels in providing protection for Ichigo and their companions with his remarkable resilience.

3. Shuhei Hisagi

Number Of Losses: 5

  • Manga Debut: Volume 9, Chapter 72
  • Anime Debut: Episode 21

Within the fan base of “Bleach,” Hisagi is frequently seen as Tite Kubo’s personal sparring partner, a reflection of his frequent defeats despite being a secondary character. After Yumichika outsmarted Hisagi and left him trailing behind, it was evident that Hisagi still had quite a journey ahead, but it wouldn’t be too long before he returned to dishing out victories for his adversaries.

In their confrontation during the final conflict, Mask de Masculie overpowered Hisagi; however, this was not the end for Hisagi. Subsequently, he was manipulated by Pepe into battling Byakuya. Almost meeting his demise after being hit by Lille Barro, who claimed to be a divine messenger, Hisagi narrowly escaped death.

2. Renji Abarai

Number Of Losses: 5

  • Manga Debut: Volume 6, Chapter 51
  • Anime Debut: Episode 15

Initially, Renji demonstrated a powerful performance against Ichigo, even making Ichigo appear inferior in front of his own captain. However, during the early battles in the series, Renji didn’t achieve significant victories. In their eventual rematch, they were equally strong, but Ichigo eventually prevailed over Renji. This victory encouraged Ichigo to challenge Byakuya, with the intention of freeing Rukia by turning against him.

In the heat of the Thousand-Year Blood War, I found myself pitted against Uryu, a formidable Quincy foe. Despite my newfound power with Bankai at my side, I discovered Uryu’s resilience to be unmatched. My solo rebellion, as lieutenant to Byakuya, didn’t bear fruit for long, as he swiftly brought me down with the Senbonzakura technique, reducing me to fragments. It was a tough lesson in underestimating an opponent’s durability!

1. Ichigo Kurosaki

Number Of Losses: 11

  • Manga Debut: Volume 1, Chapter 1
  • Anime Debut: Episode 1

In the role of the central character, Ichigo has found himself involved in many challenging fights. Despite having a notable victory tally, he’s also experienced numerous defeats. Early on in the series, Ichigo endured a crushing loss at the hands of Byakuya and Renji. However, he managed to maintain a relatively consistent win streak during the Soul Society arc. This continued until he was humbled by Grimmjow shortly thereafter.

In the climactic storyline, Ichigo, despite having been trained with the Royal Guard, would find himself overpowered by several adversaries, such as Yhwach on numerous occasions and also the enigmatic Askin. Yet, it’s worth noting that Ichigo has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat when the situation demands it – a trait he often showcases by transforming into one of his incredibly potent forms.
