Enthusiasts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are eagerly counting down the days till the Disney Plus series titled “Daredevil: Born Again“, set for release on March 4, 2025. The latest trailer has fueled anticipation with a peek into the intense storyline that lies ahead. One thing fans can be sure of is that Charlie Cox will star as the main character in “Daredevil: Born Again” as he continues to bring the character to life.
Since 2015, he’s been portraying Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the popular Netflix series and continues to do so after Disney incorporated Daredevil into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Fans have already caught glimpses of his character in upcoming projects like “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law,” and “Echo.” If Charlie Cox gets his wish, he’ll keep playing the role for many years to come.
At the latest FAN EXPO San Francisco, Cox shared his future plans for the character. He mentioned that Marvel is planning to publish a comic featuring Matt Murdock in his sixties, implying “Oh, okay, great, so we have some time”. This suggests that he’s excited to continue portraying Murdock/Daredevil for many years, thus offering numerous intriguing storylines within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Cox mentioned the comic book “Daredevil: Cold Day in Hell,” penned by Charles Soule, who also wrote “Death of Wolverine.” Notably, this comic influenced the critically praised film “Logan.” In “Logan,” Hugh Jackman portrayed an older version of the X-Men character. Although he’s reprised the role in “Deadpool & Wolverine” since then, it was “Logan” that ended Logan’s life upon its release.
Marvel Studios hasn’t tackled a story like “Logan” so far, with this movie standing out distinctively within the superhero genre at present. Yet, it was widely acclaimed by both fans and critics, suggesting that another film in a similar vein could pique audience interest. This narrative approach allows for an entirely new portrayal of the character compared to when the superhero is at their peak. It introduces an element of vulnerability, making the fight scenes more gripping because it feels realistic that the hero might not make it through them.
To get audiences excited about another Daredevil project, whether a TV series or movie, Marvel Studios will likely have to put substantial resources into the character. The success of Logan demonstrates this, as Wolverine’s numerous appearances had built a strong connection with viewers who were emotionally invested in his journey. Although Charlie Cox has previously played Daredevil multiple times, the upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again” series represents a fresh start for the character. However, there are rumors that he will also appear in “Avengers: Doomsday,” suggesting that Marvel is committed to developing Daredevil’s future over the long term, much like Cox himself.
