The revelation of “Elden Ring Dark Sovereign” caught gaming enthusiasts off guard for several reasons. To begin with, the development of this game was shrouded in complete secrecy, an unusual move for a modern AAA title, especially one associated with such a distinguished franchise. Secondly, “Elden Ring Dark Sovereign” stands out as something entirely new in FromSoftware’s portfolio, marking a departure from their previous works.
Judging by its unveiling trailer and associated press release, Elden Ring Nightreign appears to be an unusual blend of roguelike and action-RPG genres, with a hint of battle royale mechanics added for extra spice. This unique creation, dubbed Nightreign, presents a fresh challenge for FromSoftware, but it seems they’ve managed to integrate the new elements skillfully with the familiar. Although Elden Ring Nightreign will introduce a host of new adversaries for players to conquer, it will also resurrect some bosses from FromSoft’s history, and there are several beloved characters expected to make an appearance.
FromSoftware Bosses Who Should Return in Elden Ring Nightreign
Elden Ring’s Dragonlord Placidusax
It’s uncertain if any of the original Elden Ring bosses will feature in Nightreign, but it’s quite possible given FromSoftware’s plan to draw from their past works to populate the spinoff’s roster. Among these potential repeat appearances, Dragonlord Placidusax stands out as a strong contender. Known for its epic dragon boss battles and widely regarded as one of Elden Ring’s finest, Dragonlord Placidusax is an imposing figure that could seamlessly blend into Nightreign’s 3-player co-op action setting.
Dark Souls 3’s Lothric and Lorian
The trailer for Elden Ring Nightreign hinted at the possible return of Dark Souls 3’s famous Nameless King/King of Storms, but it’s not just him that should make a comeback from DS3. With Dark Souls 3 boasting many memorable boss battles, one that could suit Elden Ring Nightreign well is the duel against the monarch brothers, Lothric and Lorian. While certain members of the group focus on injuring sword-carrying Lorian, the rest can target Lothric to prevent him from healing his brother.
Dark Souls 2’s Fume Knight
Although Dark Souls 2 might be considered the less popular member of the series, it boasts some truly remarkable boss battles. One such battle is against the DLC boss from Dark Souls 2, the Fume Knight, who’s known for his fierce combat style using a massive flaming greatsword and a rapier simultaneously. It would be fantastic to see the Fume Knight make an appearance in Elden Ring Nightreign, alongside The Duke’s Dear Freja who has already been confirmed.
Dark Souls’ Smough and Ornstein
The original “Dark Souls” was often the gateway for fans into FromSoftware’s groundbreaking action-RPG gameplay style, and as a result, several of its bosses are regarded as some of the greatest in video game history. Smough and Ornstein are among the best, offering a dual boss battle that could easily fit within the realm of “Elden Ring Nightreign.
Bloodborne’s Cleric Beast
At present, there are no Bloodborne bosses slated to appear in Elden Ring Nightreign, but it’s high time that changes. The attack speed might need adjustment to align with the more leisurely combat rhythm of Elden Ring, but a beast boss like the Cleric Beast could be an excellent addition to Elden Ring Nightreign.
