Summary
- On January 31, Xbox Game Pass will remove Death’s Door and five other titles.
- Death’s Door, a highly-rated indie game, combines Soulslike elements with Zelda-style gameplay.
- Darkest Dungeon is another well-reviewed game leaving Game Pass in January 2025.
On Friday, January 31, popular game Death’s Door along with five other titles will no longer be available on Xbox Game Pass. Users who have been subscribers for a while will recognize this pattern: new games are added every month, but on two specific dates – the 15th and the last day of the month – certain games depart the service.
The pattern persists regarding the Xbox Game Pass updates in January 2025: On January 15, six games were removed, including the critically acclaimed cooperative game “Escape Academy” and the shooter game “Insurgency: Sandstorm”. More titles are set to depart from Xbox Game Pass on January 31, although Microsoft has not made an official announcement. However, the Leaving Soon section of the service has already revealed the upcoming removals ahead of schedule.
On Friday, January 31st, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will no longer be able to play games like Anuchard, Broforce, Darkest Dungeon, Death’s Door, Maquette, and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem. However, these games will be offered at a 20% discount if you wish to keep playing them after they’re taken off Game Pass. Among these, I strongly suggest that subscribers focus on Death’s Door first. Not only do you have enough time to finish it before it leaves the service, but it’s one of the highest-rated games available on Xbox Game Pass.
List of Xbox Game Pass Games Leaving Soon
- Anuchard – January 31
- Broforce – January 31
- Darkest Dungeon – January 31
- Death’s Door – January 31
- Maquette – January 31
- Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem – January 31
Title “Death’s Door” is a distinctive indie game that initially debuted in 2021 as a limited release for Xbox consoles. The intriguing blend of Soulslike features and the style of “The Legend of Zelda” creates an engaging environment teeming with puzzles, intense battles, and unforgettable boss encounters. This game boasts an outstanding 88 overall score on OpenCritic, placing it among the top-rated titles in the Game Pass library, which makes its departure all the more disappointing.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers should absolutely give a go to any games departing from the service before they’re gone, such as “Darkest Dungeon,” which holds an 84 overall rating on OpenCritic and is set to leave on January 31. Although reviews for “Maquette” were more mixed, its unique puzzle gameplay definitely has a certain allure.
It’s always disheartening when games depart from Xbox Game Pass, but there’s a silver lining: some exciting new titles are set to arrive towards the end of next month! Among them is “Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders,” due on January 21st, followed by “Eternal Strands” on the 28th. “Sniper Elite: Resistance” will be up for grabs for subscribers on the 30th, and lastly, “Citizen Sleeper 2” will join Game Pass on January 31st. It’s possible that Microsoft might have more games in store for the Game Pass January 2025 lineup, but we’ll just have to wait for their official announcement to find out for sure.
