However, instead of being overwhelmed or retreating into isolation, the resilient females of this series bravely conquer the hardships that come their way, demonstrating remarkable strength and determination.

In this captivating series, I find myself observing a rich tapestry of female characters, each one intricately woven with layers upon layers of depth. At first glance, these characters appear as typical teenagers, navigating friendships and dealing with everyday challenges. But delve deeper, and you’ll discover that they are also battling their own fears and overcoming personal obstacles to emerge as the confident, strong women they become.

Before they gained their powers, all the characters already exhibited a strong sense of confidence and defiance. In Chapter 1, when Momo was asked by her boyfriend to sleep with him or give him money, she hadn’t awakened her abilities yet. However, instead of giving in, she bravely tried to defend herself by kicking and punching him. Although she didn’t succeed due to his height and experience advantage, Momo made it clear that she was no pushover, standing up against toxic masculinity and refusing to be taken advantage of.

Even though Momo was quickly knocked down, this incident doesn’t lessen her character in any way. Later on, she bravely steps in to save Okarun from his peers’ bullying. Unlike many men who demonstrate chivalry by avoiding hurting women, Momo’s actions contrast sharply with those of her former partner. Momo’s courageous stand against Okarun’s bullies, which was not fueled by any supernatural powers but rather by sheer determination, showcases her character and underscores her strength and worth, proving that she is a woman of substance.

In another instance, there’s Shiratori Aira, who innocently grabbed Okarun’s precious heirloom. Similarly, endowed with the ability to perceive spirits, Aira didn’t possess any magical abilities or physical strength. Instead, she relied on her wit and strategic thinking to devise a strategy to expel Momo, whom she thought was a malevolent spirit. Although Aira required assistants to stage a surprise ambush against Momo during the exorcism, even after discovering Momo’s supposed powers, she still stood up to her with courage, acknowledging that it might be a futile attempt.

In observing Aira’s actions, it seemed as though her self-perception as the “Chosen One” may have been tainted by disillusionment. Yet, she displayed an extraordinary level of confidence and bravery when facing a supposed ‘demon,’ armed only with a false rosary and Bible – traits that many would struggle to muster even in the face of hardship.
