Smite 2 Adopts Seasonal System Like Helldivers 2 & Marvel Rivals!

Summary

  • Smite 2 introduced a seasonal content model with free and premium reward pages for players.
  • Players can earn XP and Coins by completing quests and daily challenges, with themed collections every 8 weeks.
  • Each collection persists and players can choose which one to work on, similar to Helldivers 2 and Marvel Rivals.

Greetings! In a new approach for “Smite 2”, Hi-Rez Studios has implemented a seasonal model that provides both free and paid progression paths via reward pages. It’s exciting to see live service games continuously evolving the way they deliver content to their player bases, and with this update, “Smite 2” has made a significant shift.

Since its debut in 2014, the game “Smite” has amassed a large fanbase among MOBA enthusiasts due to its unique differences compared to games such as “League of Legends” or “DOTA 2”. Instead of adopting the top-down perspective used in “LoL” and “DOTA 2”, Hi-Rez Studio’s MOBA provided a third-person, over-the-shoulder viewpoint that immersed players directly into the battlefield. The sequel to the original game, titled “Smite 2“, took over when closed alpha testing commenced in May 2024, and its open beta went live on January 14. In the beta phase, players can enjoy a selection of 45 playable gods, the Joust map, as well as an early test of the Assault mode that was available during the alpha stage. The content release style in “Smite 2” has been notably altered in its open beta, taking cues from successful live services like “Helldivers 2” and “Marvel Rivals“.

On the official Steam page for the game Smite 2, a fresh update has been made to showcase the upcoming seasonal system for its content. As stated in the announcement, players can accumulate XP and Coins by finishing quests and daily tasks. The Coins function as currency within the seasonal market, with themed collections being rolled out every eight weeks. Simultaneously available will be several collections in the Wandering Market. Hi-Rez Studios has confirmed that players have the option to transition to a new collection even before completing the current one. Each collection comprises four sections of content, the first of which is free, while the remaining pages are part of a premium track. Free-to-play players of Smite 2 will receive Diamonds, an in-game currency used for purchasing items such as skins and cosmetics, along with them. The premium pass offers greater rewards.

Smite 2 Shares Seasonal Content Plans With a Focus on Poseidon

Each Smith 2 assortment showcases a distinctive skin on every page, among which the emphasized one is Hot Stuff Poseidon – a reimagined Greek deity carrying a bottle of hot sauce and a red pitchfork instead. Players can access the content on each page using Coins, allowing them to choose their preferred cosmetic items much like Battle Stars were introduced in Fortnite. If a player isn’t satisfied with a collection, they have the option to save their Coins for a later one until they reach a limit. Hi-Rez Studios has indicated that there are no set endings planned for any collection, and players may revisit older ones, hinting at the possibility of them being permanent, similar to Helldivers 2’s battle pass system.

Previously, Smite (the predecessor of Smite 2) didn’t adhere to a seasonal content structure like its collaborations with shows such as Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles suggested. However, the open beta release of Smite 2 could introduce a fresh approach that might appeal to those who haven’t made the switch to the sequel so far. As Hi-Rez Studios continues refining Smite 2, they may make more tweaks to the cosmetic and progression systems.
