In December, news broke about a fresh installment of the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, and fans across the US are eager to catch it in movie theaters! This is the first “Gundam” production that Sunrise Studios, known for their work on the original “Mobile Suit Gundam,” has collaborated on with Khara Studio, creators of the “Rebuild of Evangelion” and current holders of the rights to the Evangelion series.

Title of the series: “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX“, often pronounced like “G-Quacks”, is penned by Hideaki Anno and Yoji Enokido. The director for this project is Kazuya Tsurumaki. Notably, Hideaki Anno is the mastermind behind “Evangelion“, while Enokido and Tsurumaki have contributed to various episodes within the Gundam series.

GKIDS revealed they’ve purchased the rights to show the prequel movie titled “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-” in North American cinemas, which is scheduled for release on February 28, 2025.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX

The upcoming film serves as an introduction to the television show, which has not specified its release date yet. The production crew may reveal additional details shortly since the movie is currently being shown in Japan.

In this fresh tale, the scene shifts to a space colony. The protagonist, Amate Yuzuriha, is an ordinary schoolgirl with everyday routines, until she crosses paths with Nyaan, a displaced soldier from war-torn regions. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they discover Clan Battles – illicit fights involving mobile suits. Enter the GQuuuuuuX, a mobile suit that Amate will pilot in these clandestine contests. However, things have taken a turn for the worse as space authorities and law enforcement are now pursuing her due to her involvement.

Other staff members who contributed to the production of Pokémon Sun & Moon were recognized as character designer, and Ikuto Yamashita, known for his work on Shin Kamen Rider and Evangelion, was credited as mechanical designer.

Anno’s Involvement in the Series

As Anno is crafting the scripts, it seems that Tsurumaki keeps the end outcomes concealed from him. However, according to Ikuto Yamashita, the entire project is overseen solely by Tsurumaki.

In Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, it’s Kazuya Tsurumaki who is in charge as the director, making all the decisions. Although Anno may offer some support from the sidelines, his role is limited. As the head of Khara, Anno will be kept updated on the project’s progress. However, Tsurumaki prefers to keep things under wraps until the very end, so as to avoid any last-minute changes or revisions.

GQuuuuuuX is likely to be a show that anyone who hasn’t watched other Gundam series can enjoy.

Although the start of the North American screening for the GQuuuuuuX prologue film is set for next month, the release date for its television series has yet to be disclosed.
