The creative team at South Korean studio Redice Entertainment, known for adapting the manhwa “Solo Leveling”, has decided to expand their horizons by investing in the global film market! Redice has been a significant player in the webtoon industry for some time now, and they’ve had several successful productions under their belt.

Their most renowned work is ‘Solo Leveling,’ but they’ve created numerous other manhwa as well! It’s quite possible that additional works will receive anime adaptations, thanks in large part to the webtoon version of ‘Solo Leveling’ which has significantly expanded its international fanbase, despite the series originally being a novel.

Redice is set to showcase their lineup at the European Film Market (EFM) from February 13-19, 2025, in Berlin. Among the titles they will present are “Sister” and “Killing Time”, both of which are currently being worked on during post-production.

Previous Redice Investiments in Movies

Redice’s initial venture in the movie business was providing funds for the production of the Thai horror film titled “The Cursed Land“, a project by Neramitnung Film. This film was first screened in 2024 at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.

In addition to the upcoming presentation, the company will display other pre-announced titles such as “The Bus,” “The Favorite Restaurant,” “Samakdo,” and “Veranda” at the festival.

What Does It All Mean?

Currently, it appears the company is aiming to broaden its operations, likely having garnered a substantial profit from “The Cursed Land,” which could explain its involvement in numerous other projects.

It appears that “Redice” means to begin something in a grand or significant manner.

The movie titled “Sister” is a crime thriller and features Jung Zi-so (Parasite) as one of the main characters. The story revolves around a hostage who must navigate a dangerous situation with two kidnappers.

On the other hand, “Killing Time” is a horror production that centers around a fictitious YouTube team. While they are live-streaming, a tragic accident occurs and claims one of their members.

So far, it appears that none of these titles share a connection with the webtoon division of Redice Studio. Yet, should they succeed with these initial projects, they might explore collaborations to bring popular manhwa like “Solo Leveling” from their collection to life as well.
