Picking up seamlessly from where the first season concluded, we were reintroduced to Alucard, Dracula’s offspring, who now plays a pivotal role. Unlike its predecessor, Season 2 demonstrated a rapid-fire narrative pace. Recognizing Erzsebet Báthory as an adversary too formidable to confront solo, Richer enlists the aid of Marie, Annette, Juste, and Alucard in their quest to vanquish the Vampire Goddess.

In the last two episodes of Castlevania Nocturne Season 2, our heroes faced a prolonged battle against Erzsebet Báthory and Drolta. Despite the challenges, they successfully protected Earth from perpetual darkness. The climax of the season wrapped up various character storylines but also introduced an even more ominous backdrop for Season 3. If you found yourself engrossed in the fight scenes and missed some key plot points, here’s a brief summary of Castlevania Nocturne Season 2’s ending.

Erzsebet Báthory Absorbs Sekhmet’s Powers To Become The Goddess

But She Couldn’t Her Hands On The Third Part Of Sekhmet’s Soul, Akh

In a bid to resurrect the ancient deity Sekhmet, already formidable as a Vampire, Erzsebet sought to harness her powers. Following Sekhmet’s demise, her spirit splintered into three components: physical form (Ba), life force (Ka), and the virtuous aspect of her divine soul (Akh). Through Drolta’s relentless endeavors, Erzsebet successfully absorbed the Ba and Ka fragments. Yet, despite numerous attempts, she remained unable to grasp the pure essence of Sekhmet’s soul, the Akh.

In a fortunate turn of events, Annette managed to establish a direct connection with the deity, Sekhmet, via Akh. Enraged by Drolta’s misuse of her powers and betrayal of trust, Sekhmet chose to venture into the human realm, taking control of Annette’s body as her medium. Although Sekhmet (Akh) couldn’t engage Erzsebet in combat directly, she did manage to sow confusion among the other two aspects of her soul, which weakened Erzsebet significantly. Seizing this opportunity, Erzsebet’s adversaries—Richter, Alucard, and Maria—launched a relentless assault against the Vampire.

The Ultimate Team-Up To Defeat Erzsebet Báthory

Every Character Plays A Crucial Role In Defeating The Vampire

Initially, Richter often underestimated his abilities, questioning if he could prevail against Erzsebet Báthory. However, it wasn’t long before Richter understood that he didn’t have to shoulder this burden alone; Alucard, Maria, Juste, and Annette were always by his side. In the end, it was the collective might of the entire group that managed to vanquish Erzsebet Báthory and her army. While Richter and Alucard pummeled the Vampire with their blows, Annette and Maria employed magic to weaken the opposition.

By the close of Season 2, Maria masterfully commanded the beasts from other dimensions. Consequently, she unleashed a variety of these beasts upon Erzsebet, including the Dragon that had slain the Abbot. Simultaneously, Akh, the third fragment of Sekhmet’s soul, seized control over Maria and undermined Erzsebet using her abilities. Despite Erzsebet’s immense power at this juncture, Richter and his companions managed to subdue the vampire with her insatiable hunger for power. Nevertheless, before they could eliminate her, Drolta intervened and whisked Erzsebet away from the scene, holding her in her arms.

Drolta Finally Revealed Her True Motives

She Was Never Really Loyal To Erzsebet Báthory

Initially, Drolta demonstrated an extraordinary devotion towards Erzsebet Báthory, viewing Erzsebet as the ideal conduit for Sekhmet. After battling through countless challenges over centuries, Drolta finally managed to imbue the monstrous Vampire with Sekhmet’s Ba and Ka. Yet, at a critical juncture when Erzsebet was on the verge of defeat and kneeling down, Drolta decided to turn against her.

It seems that Drolta had no loyalty towards Erzsebet, instead valuing herself as worthy of being Sekhmet’s vessel. Consequently, when Erzsebet was weakened after their defeat, Drolta seized the opportunity by drinking her blood (resulting in Erzsebet’s immediate death), and ultimately became Sekhmet’s chosen one.

What brings you here, Sekhmet (Akh)? Your essence seems too powerful to be contained within such a fragile human form. – Erzsebet to Sekhmet (Akh)

In the midst of harboring Ba and Ka within her, Drolta held a strength surpassing Erzsebet’s, but she never fathomed facing her own deity in combat. Assuming Sekhmet yearned to mingle with mankind once more and be revered anew, Drolta was tragically mistaken. In her dying breaths, Drolta finds herself wavering in her battle resolve after being branded as “an abomination” by the Goddess she held dear, Sekhmet (Akh).

Richter’s Power-Up Ultimately Saves The Day

He Defeats Drolta and Helped Annette Find Her Way Back Home

When Drolta grows weak, Sekhmet steps in to retrieve two pieces of Drolta’s spirit. But there’s a condition: Sekhmet’s three spirit fragments must come together within Annette. Unfortunately, Annette is unable to contain all three fragments of Sekhmet’s soul, and just like any other human, she will perish if this occurs. Essentially, Annette can never re-enter our world from the other realm, and her spirit will be forever imprisoned there.

Despite understanding that he would lose Annette, Richter goes ahead with allowing Sekhmet (Akh) to take Ba and Ka from Drolta’s body. Yet, as he cradles Annette’s lifeless form in his arms, he longingly calls for his soulmate. In a heartfelt confession, Richter declares his love for Annette, and upon hearing Richter’s voice, she gathers all her strength to flee the dimensional monster and reunite with her physical body.

But now, I can’t imagine the world without you, Annette. Any of it. – Richter

As a devoted fan, I can say that Richter, unaware of his destiny, harbored doubts about his worthiness to bear the Belmont name. The pain of losing his mother was too profound to let go quickly. Yet, when he found Annette, his soulmate, Richter wholeheartedly accepted his magical potential. In a burst of anger, Richter seized Alucard’s sword and augmented its power through sorcery. He also experienced a remarkable increase in both strength and speed. While Alucard stepped aside, Richter overpowered Drolta decisively, vanquishing her for good.

The Finale Sets The Stage For A Much Darker Season

Tera And Maria Could Be In The Forefront In Season 3

In the second season of Nocturne, the most intriguing enigma undoubtedly revolved around the character known as “Old Man Coyote,” a representation of Death similar to the Grim Reaper in Castlevania. This ominous figure was observed transporting Abbot’s remains into what seemed like hell or some sinister realm. Throughout the season, this entity pursued Tera and Maria relentlessly. In the finale, he was spotted lurking behind Tera with a smile that suggested he had nefarious intentions towards the mother-daughter duo.

In a temporary lapse during Season 2, Maria employed her abilities over interdimensional travel to end Abbot’s life. She is uniquely skilled at navigating darker dimensions. It’s possible that this spectral being, hailing from one of these shadowy realms, intends to manipulate Maria and Tera for his purposes in the human world. Alternatively, he may be using Maria to shatter the boundaries between dimensions with the ultimate goal of seizing control over our world. Regardless, it’s clear that this entity and the mother-daughter pair will likely hold significant roles in Season 3. However, we must patiently await the next season to uncover the true intentions of the Grim Reaper.
