  • Some believe that this Easter egg hints at a hidden Floyd boss battle in Mortal Kombat 1, with a rumored connection to Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon’s past comments.

As a die-hard Mortal Kombat fan, I’m excitedly speculating that a secret character might be joining our roster in the upcoming DLC! For quite some time now, series creator Ed Boon has been dropping hints about this. On January 21st, the legendary warrior Conan the Barbarian will wield his powerful sword amidst the chaos of Mortal Kombat 1, stepping into the fray as the latest special guest character for Kombat Pack 2. Joining him will be none other than Ghostface from the Scream franchise and the iconic T-1000 from Terminator 2, who is yet to make his appearance.

In a recent trailer, some gameplay featuring Conan from Mortal Kombat 1 was unveiled. This sneak peek allowed viewers to catch a glimpse of some of his unique attacks, the dialogue between characters prior to fights, and the gruesome Fatality finishers he’s known for. Similar to other guest characters in previous versions of Mortal Kombat 1, Conan has been accurately portrayed in the game, right down to the digital representation of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Chris Cox providing his voice, a role he also played with the Terminator character in Mortal Kombat 11.

Some players of Mortal Kombat 1 have discovered an intriguing Easter egg hidden within Conan’s gameplay footage, which doesn’t directly relate to the renowned swordsman. Gaming content creator Super recently got a chance to play as Conan before his launch on January 21 and pointed out an interesting detail during a mirror match. In Conan’s victory pose, the name “Floyd” momentarily appears in bold pink letters while a distinct guitar melody can be heard playing in the background.

Secret Character Floyd Might Finally Debut in Mortal Kombat 1

According to Super, they’re puzzled about what caused this occurrence and haven’t been able to recreate it since. On the other hand, another Twitter user named thetiny reported a similar experience and suggested that a specific action activated the Floyd pop-up. Fans are now speculating on its significance after spotting a hint dropped by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon several years ago. He mentioned wanting to introduce a pink-clad ninja named Floyd to the Mortal Kombat universe at some point. In 2023, thetiny allegedly found text in the source code of Mortal Kombat 1 that hints at Floyd, further fueling this new theory.

It seems that the character named Floyd’s name and supposed pink attire are hinting at the band Pink Floyd, similar to how Rain from Mortal Kombat is associated with Prince’s “Purple Rain.” There’s a possibility that Floyd could make his in-game debut as a hidden boss fight in Mortal Kombat 1. However, whether players will be able to control this character remains uncertain, depending on their eventual inclusion in the game. In the interim, Conan the Barbarian is set to enter the arena of Mortal Kombat 1 on January 21, ready to vanquish his foes.
