Summary
- Nintendo of Japan’s annual salary decreased by 2.3% in 2024 despite higher net sales and profits.
- Nintendo remains one of Japan’s best-paying companies with an average salary of 9.627 million yen.
- The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release is predicted to sell over 20 million units in its first year.
Despite the fact that the Nintendo Switch is still flying off shelves, the company isn’t lavishing its employees with cash. Quite the opposite, actually. In Japan, Nintendo has reduced the annual salaries of its staff members instead.
Despite the reduction, Nintendo continues to rank among the top-tier companies in Japan’s western area when it comes to employee compensation.
Nintendo Of Japan Decreases Salaries, But Still One Of The Country’s Best-Paying Companies In Japan
Based on data from Diamond Online’s ranking (as reported by Automaton), Nintendo of Japan experienced a 2.3% reduction in annual salaries during the 2024 fiscal year, despite an increase of 4.4% in net sales and a 4.9% growth in operating profit within that period. The business journal suggests that this decrease in salary may be due to the decline in both net sales and net profit that Nintendo experienced in the previous 2023 fiscal year.
In simpler terms, when comparing average annual salaries among companies based in the western region of Japan (excluding Osaka), Nintendo ranks second to Screen Holdings, a semiconductor manufacturer. The average salary at Nintendo is approximately 9.627 million yen, which is about $62,000 according to current exchange rates.
Among all entertainment companies, Nintendo stood alone as one of the top five performers.
This year, as the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to go global, it’s expected that Nintendo will experience a significant increase in their total earnings. Despite no confirmed release date, technical details, or announced games for the upcoming console, analysts are already anticipating that Nintendo will sell more than 20 million units within its first year.
In April, the anticipated reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to take place. Last week’s announcement from Nintendo served mostly as a confirmation that the console would be hitting the market this year, and we’ve already caught our first glimpse of its design.
