Summary
- Scream 7 brings back legacy cast members like Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, alongside newer characters.
- Fans want to see Mindy and Chad from Scream 6 return in Woodsboro hosting a true crime podcast.
- Jasmin Savoy Brown reprises her role as Mindy, bringing horror movie expertise and unique dynamic to Scream 7.
When I found out that my beloved horror series was going to produce a seventh film, I secretly wished the key characters from the recent installments would survive long enough for another appearance. Lucky for me, the cast of Scream 7 features some familiar figures from the past. Neve Campbell will once again portray Sidney Prescott, the final girl, Courteney Cox is returning as journalist Gale Weathers, and Mason Gooding reprises his role as Chad Meeks-Martin. According to Variety , Jasmin Savoy Brown will be back to play Chad’s sister Mindy Meeks-Martin.
I’m eager to find out how the fresh characters align with the battle against Ghostface in the storyline. Plus, it’s great news to see Mindy back on screen, given her intelligence, courage, and engaging personality. With Chad and Mindy coming back to support Sidney, my mind is brimming with concepts for their character development.
Here’s The Mindy/Chad Scream 7 Storyline I Hope To See
If the rumor is correct that Scream 7 includes a time leap, I believe there’s a possibility that Mindy and Chad could be residing in Woodsboro now. Given their exciting college life in New York City during Scream 6, it seems plausible they might return to their hometown for comfort and familiarity, considering all the traumatic events they’ve experienced.
I’d be thrilled if Mindy and Chad teamed up for a true crime podcast focused on the Woodsboro murders and popular slasher films from recent years. Given that Mindy has assumed her late uncle Randy Meeks’ horror movie expertise, it seems fitting for her character. Chad, who isn’t as enthusiastic about slasher movies, can provide some humor to balance things out. Initially reluctant, he agreed to co-host the show to spend more time with his sister. They might even invite Sidney as a special guest, creating an opportunity for them to reflect on the danger they overcame together.
Mindy discussed the challenges involved in producing a sequel for Scream (2022), and it’d be exciting to witness a similar soliloquy from her in Scream 7. In simpler terms, Mindy spoke about the struggles of making another Scream movie, and it would be intriguing to hear something comparable in Scream 7.
In today’s entertainment landscape, simply restarting a franchise as if from scratch no longer appeals to the audience. For instance, movies like “Black Christmas”, “Child’s Play”, and “Flatliners”. However, it’s not just about making a straightforward sequel either… It needs to be an extension of an ongoing narrative, even if the original story didn’t call for continuity. The main characters can indeed be new, but they should still be linked to or influenced by the established characters from the past. This approach is neither a reboot nor a sequel in its traditional sense.
On this occasion, Mindy might delve deeply into horror films during her podcast discussion. If by some twist of fate Ghostface mysteriously called into the podcast, Mindy could mistakenly believe he was a prankster fan trying to be amusing and spooky. This could lead to disagreements between Chad and Mindy as they debate the authenticity of the threat, adding intrigue and depth to their relationship dynamic.
It appeared probable that Chad met his demise in Scream 6, but he managed to evade Ghostface. Given these circumstances, it’s plausible that Ghostface would target Chad and Mindy once more. As far as I’m concerned, so long as the storylines for Chad and Mindy in Scream 7 showcase their strong bond and provide them with equal attention, I’ll be content.
What Did Jasmin Savoy Brown Say About The Scream Franchise?
By January 2024, Jasmin Savoy Brown mentioned that she hasn’t received any offers yet for the role in Scream 7. In a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, she stated this fact.
“I haven’t gotten a call, so I think if you want to ask Spyglass what they’re doing, you can.”
Enthusiasts are undoubtedly thrilled that Savoy Brown is making a comeback, as Mindy, an astute character from Scream (2022), and Scream 6, will reappear. She possesses extensive knowledge about horror movie final girls and the usual tropes present in both originals and sequels, making it a delightful prospect to welcome her back for more enlightenment in Scream 7.
In addition to discussing if she would resume her cherished character, Savoy Brown touched on the Scream series during a 2023 conversation with Elle Magazine. She expressed her thoughts as follows:
In a “Scream” movie, all three outcomes are strong. If you die, it’ll be a memorable demise. If you survive, that’s impressive. And if you’re the killer, well, that’s quite the twist! No matter what role I play, I always enjoy the experience.
