3D Realms, Slipgate Ironworks, and Knights Peak jointly revealed that they will be releasing a free Steam demo for their game, Tempest Rising, on the 24th of April.
The teams have announced that you can play the demo from now until February 3, during Steam’s Real-Time Strategy Festival. They also mention that you’ll get a chance to enjoy intense base-building, resource management, and thrilling combat between distinct factions in this game, which is a genuine spiritual successor to the classic real-time strategy games from the ’90s and 2000s.
In Tempest Rising, you’ll be whisked away to a war-torn 1997 in a parallel universe where the Cuban Missile Crisis resulted in nuclear devastation. Enjoy two captivating campaigns featuring distinctive factions and gameplay that emphasizes strategy and skill. Assume complete control over the battlefield as you expand your base, guide your troops into conflict, and devise cunning strategies to secure victory.
Here’s the key features from the latest press release:
- Classic RTS base-building with fast, fluid, hard-hitting combat and tons of customization
- Command two asymmetrical factions, each featuring unique harvesting models, resource systems, and distinct rosters of units for drastically different playstyles
- Two epic single-player campaigns with between-mission cutscenes to drive the story
- Skirmish, custom games, and ranked multiplayer matchmaking with Glicko-2 rating
In a recent hands-on experience, we found ourselves immersed in the game and commented: “Although I didn’t delve into the campaign or multiplayer, Skirmish provided a chance to familiarize myself with the diverse factions and the compelling yet straightforward gameplay. It’s invigorating to play a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game that offers just the right balance of guidance and challenge. Tempest Rising stands out visually and musically, and I’m genuinely eager for the full launch. The developers at Slipgate Ironworks have successfully created an engaging RTS experience that evokes nostalgia from the genre’s golden era while introducing something unique.
Tempest Rising is coming to PC via Steam on April 24th.
