NCSoft’s Horizon MMO Has Also Reportedly Been Canceled

NCSoft’s Horizon MMO, codenamed Project H, has reportedly been canceled.

According to reports from MTN, a South Korean website (as shared on ResetEra), at least three projects by NCSoft have been shelved: Project Pantera, Project H, and a project believed to be Horizon MMO, known internally as Project J based on widespread speculation.

Based on the findings, both Project J and Project H were terminated at the start of the year, with their respective teams informed that they would be reassigned to various departments within the company.

Towards the end of 2023, NCSoft and Sony entered into a worldwide business alliance, with the deal being headed by executives Jim Ryan from SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) and Taekjin Kim from NCSOFT.

It’s important to note that The Horizon MMO isn’t the same as Horizon Online, another game from Guerrilla Games that is currently being developed and is expected to have up to a million players at its peak. In 2022, Horizon Online Multiplayer was officially announced as an online game set within the Horizon universe. A recent job posting indicates that the release of this title might occur in 2025.

This month, it’s been reported that Project H has been scrapped, making it the third project to be canceled this month. Previously, as reported by Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, two live-service games were called off – one at Bend Studio and another at Bluepoint. The report suggests that the game being developed at Bluepoint was intended to be a live-service version of God of War.

By the 9th of May, 2023, the Horizon series had surpassed a global sales figure of more than 32 million units. Approximately 8.4 million of these sales were accounted for by Horizon Forbidden West.
