Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Surprises with Day-One Sequel to Beloved Racing Game!

Summary

  • Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is now available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
  • Much like its critically acclaimed predecessor, Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders is a day-one Xbox Game Pass release.

Starting from today, January 21st, members of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate are now able to begin playing “Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders” as part of their ongoing subscription. This game, which joins the service on its launch day, marks the fifth title added to Microsoft’s offering in the month of January 2025 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Originating from Megagon Industries, “Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders” is the follow-up to “Lonely Mountains: Downhill,” a 2019 game that garnered a strong reputation as one of the most exhilarating off-road racing games in recent years. The initial installment in this series was a launch title for Xbox Game Pass, and it has been accessible to Microsoft subscribers for over five years.

Approximately two and a half months following the departure of “Lonely Mountains: Downhill” from Xbox Game Pass, its sequel has arrived to fill its spot. Similar to all first-day releases on the service since summer 2024, “Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders” is exclusively accessible for PC Game Pass and top-tier members. This off-road racing game can also be streamed through Xbox Cloud Gaming, a unique benefit for Ultimate-tier subscribers.

In the game Snow Riders, much like its predecessor, players are tasked with mastering a steep mountain, this time not on a bike but as a skier, showcasing both swiftness and panache in their descent. Just as before, the thrill of tackling rugged landscapes and leaping off cliffs is integral to the gameplay, with Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders recognizing and rewarding quick reactions and courage. Similar to Lonely Mountains: Downhill, overcoming challenges in Snow Riders grants access to new equipment and destinations.

When Will Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders Reach Xbox Game Pass Standard?

When Microsoft introduced Xbox Game Pass Standard in July 2024, they mentioned that the budget tier of their service might get day-one releases from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with a delay of six to twelve months. Although the specific dates can change depending on each case, Microsoft has generally kept this commitment since then. Consequently, it’s plausible that the game Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders could join the Xbox Game Pass Standard library as soon as July 2025.

For now, there are some exciting new games joining Xbox Game Pass Ultimate before the month ends. Starting on Wednesday, January 22, you can expect to see “Starbound” and “Gigantic: Rampage Edition.” These will be followed by “Eternal Strands” and “Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap” on January 28. “Shady Part of Me” is scheduled for a day later. However, keep in mind that Xbox Game Pass will bid farewell to about half a dozen titles on January 31, among them “Anuchard,” “Darkest Dungeon,” and “Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem.” On January 23, you might want to tune in for more Xbox Game Pass updates during Microsoft’s third-ever Xbox Developer Direct.
