- January 2025 will be the first month since July 2024 when Xbox Game Pass didn’t remove more titles than it added.
In simple terms, Microsoft unveiled the next set of games coming to the Xbox Game Pass in January 2025. This second wave will feature eight brand new Xbox Game Pass titles and an additional five games added to the standard tier collection.
Starting from summer 2024, Xbox Game Pass has been regularly taking away more games than it brings in each month. The only exception to this trend was July 2024, where the service actually gained 12 new games, while only subtracting 9 previously available titles.
At last, this long-standing dry spell is about to come to an end! Microsoft has announced their January 2025 Wave 2 lineup, which consists of eight new games. These additions will bring the total to twelve releases, making up for the titles removed this month. Apart from Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders, which was added to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on January 21, the subscription service is set to receive Gigantic: Rampage Edition, Starbound, Eternal Strands, Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap, Shady Part of Me, Sniper Elite: Resistance, and Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, respectively.

Xbox Game Pass Standard Getting 5 New Titles in the Second Half of January 2025
As a devoted gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the updated roster includes five captivating games set to join the Xbox Game Pass Standard library: Flock, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Magical Delicacy, Tchia, and The Case of the Golden Idol. These fantastic titles were initially introduced to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate back in July 2024, but now, they’re scheduled for a wider audience on January 22 as they make their way to the budget tier of the service!
In the recent announcement about its upcoming releases, Microsoft confirmed that Far Cry New Dawn, set for launch on February 4 next month, will be joining Xbox Game Pass. This marks the third installment from Ubisoft’s famous series to join the service, following Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6, which debuted in July 2022 and December 2023 respectively. As the earlier releases have remained part of Microsoft’s collection since their debut and are still accessible to subscribers in early 2025, it is expected that Far Cry New Dawn will continue this trend.
Typically, the recent rollout of XGP updates also included Microsoft’s announcement about games set to leave their service. As anticipated, this announcement simply confirmed what was previously hinted at in an update to the Xbox app: come January 31st, six titles from Xbox Game Pass will be removed. The games leaving are: Anuchard, Broforce, Darkest Dungeon, Death’s Door, Maquette, and Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem. We can expect the first wave of Xbox Game Pass additions for February 2024 to be unveiled early next month, with a likely announcement on February 4th given Microsoft’s pattern of announcing new service additions on Tuesdays. In the interim, the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct may offer further Xbox Game Pass updates on January 23rd.
