Anticipation among fans of “House of the Dragon” grows as they eagerly wait for news about the air date of season 3. One of the show’s actors provides an update on when filming is expected to start. The second season of the highly-anticipated prequel to “Game of Thrones” premiered in June last year, and just like that, it was renewed for seasons three and four. Set against the backdrop of George R.R. Martin’s novel “Fire & Blood”, “House of the Dragon” chronicles the descent of House Targaryen into a devastating civil war, tearing families apart due to greed and treachery.

Season 3 will pick up where season 2 left off for House of the Dragon, with the stakes escalating as the Targaryen dynasty persists through fire and blood. Fans are eagerly waiting to see Daeron Targaryen, Aegon and Aemond’s brother, when the series resumes, and perhaps catch more of Admiral Lohar, portrayed by Abigail Thorne, who poses a distinct challenge to Tyland Lannister. The success of this show didn’t shock those who followed the critically acclaimed Game of Thrones with its intricate yet engrossing storylines and characters, becoming one of the most watched shows in history. Yet, some fans are concerned that season 3 may struggle to meet the high standards set by previous seasons, and there’s a fear that the curse of adaptation could surface once again.

House of the Dragon Season 3 Filming Start Receives an Update From Rhys Ifans

In a chat with ScreenRant about his upcoming action spy film, “Inheritance“, co-starring Phoebe Dynevor and Rhys Ifans, the actor shared some exciting news about the development of season three of “House of the Dragon“. Although he’s not sure about the specific schedule, Ifans, who plays Ser Otto Hightower, hinted that filming for season three is likely to begin soon. The actor playfully suggested that viewers might have to wait a while to see it, joking that they could expect to watch it around “about 25 years from now.

I’m not certain about the answer, but I can sense a peculiar sulfur smell. Something seems to be happening, and I suspect that they will start shooting this year. So, you might be able to witness it around 25 years from now.

According to Iain Glen (a cast member), production for the third season of House of the Dragon is set to commence soon, as previously speculated. In a podcast last year, showrunner Ryan Condal mentioned that filming would start in Q1 of 2025, which translates roughly to January, February, or March. This implies that we may not see season three until around March/April of 2026 – approximately fourteen months after the end of season two. That’s quite a long wait, but it didn’t seem to hurt shows like Severance in terms of popularity.

As fans eagerly anticipate, the forthcoming “Game of Thrones” spin-off starring Ser Duncan and Prince Aegon Targaryen is expected to premiere around late 2025. In the meantime, fantasy enthusiasts might want to immerse themselves in “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” first.
