Enthusiasts worldwide are still on tenterhooks for news regarding “Hollow Knight: Silksong“, despite numerous opportunities for updates having come and gone. Unveiled in February 2019, this game has garnered significant attention due to the burgeoning popularity of its predecessor, released in 2017 – Hollow Knight. The 2D indie metroidvania was applauded for its flawless action, platforming, exploration, and overall presentation, and Silksong was anticipated to build on these successes. However, the specifics of what has transpired since then remain unclear, with the release date being pushed beyond 2023, leaving a noticeable silence in its wake.
When Hollow Knight: Silksong becomes available, players will have the chance to assume command over Hornet, a character who previously clashed with the protagonist in the first game and now serves as the Princess-Protector of Hallownest. Silksong represents an enlarged version of the Hornet DLC initially conceived for the original Hollow Knight, offering a unique yet comparable adventure within the new kingdom of Pharloom. Features such as instant healing, a more transparent questing system, new gear choices, and possibly double the content are expected to make Hollow Knight: Silksong a strong contender for the throne previously held by the original game. However, it should remember one crucial element that helped the first game achieve success.
Some Of Hollow Knight’s Most Interesting Bosses Were Opt-In Affairs
In the game Hollow Knight, much like other Soulslikes, a significant aspect is its challenging boss battles. At launch, approximately 30 bosses were included in the game, with more being added later on. Notably, the game offers several “Dream Bosses,” which are encountered by utilizing the Dream Nail item in specific locations or characters within the game. This action initiates a fight against a tougher version of the original boss related to the entrance point, and these battles differ from the initial encounter each time. Grey Prince Zote is the exception as it offers a completely new fight experience, but changes extend beyond just attack patterns for most of them.
What Makes Dream Bosses Stand Out
Apart from fighting Nightmare King Grimm being crucial for one of the Grimm Troupe’s conclusions and defeating the other five bosses providing significant Essence for the true ending, these battles are not essential for advancement. Since the Dream Bosses reside in the Dream Realm, players can engage them freely without worrying about depleting resources. Upon death, no Shade is abandoned, ensuring no loss of Geo or SOUL Meter. Additionally, Fragile Charms from Leg Eater remain intact and unbroken. In truth, Steel Soul permadeath runs don’t conclude even when perishing to a Dream Boss, making them the perfect additional challenges.
Dream Bosses Would Be Great Additions To Hollow Knight: Silksong
Silksong’s New Features Grant More Room To Dream Bosses
Anticipation for numerous exceptional new bosses in Hollow Knight: Silksong is already high, yet fans are also keen on having similar counterparts, often referred to as Dream Bosses. These are optional challenges designed for experienced players, offering unique rewards upon completion. Given the larger proposed scale of Silksong, such content seems fitting. Additionally, a boss rush and rematch system like Godhome’s would be valuable, but the custom-made content of the Dream Bosses, though easier to create, still offers value for casual players seeking an introduction to endgame content without diving headfirst.
As a gamer eagerly anticipating Hollow Knight: Silksong, I’m hoping that they’ll introduce something akin to the Dream Nail from the original game. The Dream Bosses in Hollow Knight were a fantastic addition and I believe Silksong could benefit from having one or more of these unique encounters.
In the first game, Dream Bosses were seamlessly integrated into the quests, offering a rich variety of rewards and progression that made each boss fight feel fresh and exciting. Some of these bosses even offered multiple endings, encouraging players to replay the game for different experiences. I’m excited to see how Silksong could build upon this concept.
The Dream Bosses in Hollow Knight were a highlight of the game, and I truly hope that Team Cherry finds ways to maximize their potential in Silksong. Here’s to hoping for some challenging and rewarding boss battles!
