Last year, Black Ops 6 emerged, sparking speculation about the possible comeback of DMZ online. Some Call of Duty tipsters hinted that DMZ, the previously unsuccessful extraction shooter mode, might reappear in Call of Duty ‘2026’. However, since then, these leaks have been relatively quiet.
Hey there fellow gamers! Just wanted to share some exciting news I picked up today. Looks like my fave, Call of Duty, might be bringing back DMZ in their 2026 release. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got cooked up for us!
Time to Raid
2022 saw the launch of Call of Duty’s DMZ mode alongside Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0, and this new game mode swiftly gained popularity among fans. In DMZ (Disaster Zone), players are challenged to infiltrate Al-Mazrah, complete missions, gather loot, eliminate opponents, and then safely exit without getting eliminated themselves.
The approach was satisfactory initially, but unfortunately, the content delivery struggled right from the beginning and the project was eventually cancelled before it could fully reveal its potential. It’s unfortunate because it had to compete against heavier hitters and more influential games in the extraction shooter genre, such as Escape from Tarkov, which undoubtedly overshadowed it.
On Twitter (X), TheGhostOfHope posted a ‘small leak on the TL’, claiming:
DMZ returns as third gamemode in COD2026
The ‘third gameplay mode’ mentioned by the leaker refers to an additional game option that exists together with the campaign and conventional multiplayer in Black Ops 6. This special mode is none other than Call of Duty: Zombies, a comprehensive zombie-themed experience.
In the realm of Call of Duty games, DMZ stood out with its expansive battle royale map for exploratory gameplay like no other. It allowed users to form alliances instead of relying solely on player versus player combat. Remarkably, players were penalized for eliminating fellow raiders.
