With Rocksteady’s “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” wrapping up, everyone is eagerly awaiting what DC will bring next featuring their iconic heroes. At this point, it appears that could be through Monolith Productions’ “Wonder Woman” game title. Although details about this game are scarce beyond a brief teaser trailer, there’s potential for it to become something truly remarkable. Given the contentious narrative of “Suicide Squad,” “Wonder Woman” stands a chance to carve out its own unique identity within the DC universe.
Over a prolonged period, Rocksteady’s Arkhamverse has been the most prominent franchise in DC’s video game world, much like Marvel Studios’ Cinematic Universe. Some enthusiasts anticipated that Warner Bros. might develop a universe based on this, featuring games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Wonder Woman. However, it appears that such a connected universe may not be in the works, and instead, Wonder Woman is expected to stand alone after Suicide Squad. Whether this strategy will prove successful remains uncertain, but it seems like their best bet.
Wonder Woman’s Fate Could Help Monolith Forge Its Own Path
Wonder Woman Does Not Need to be Tied Down by the Arkhamverse
In the game “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League”, it’s disclosed at the end that the League members slain by players were merely replicas of the original heroes. Interestingly, Wonder Woman was not captured by Brainiac but was instead killed by a clone of Superman. Consequently, unless Rocksteady Studio provides a contrary statement, we can assume that she has met her demise in the Arkhamverse. This suggests that an Arkhamverse Wonder Woman narrative might not be in the pipeline, but fans need not worry as they’ll get something entirely fresh instead.
Monolith Productions’ “Wonder Woman” project is now free to create a distinctive take on the DC universe. Unlike Rocksteady’s canon, they have the liberty to shape their own interpretation of these characters and launch their own franchise alongside the Arkhamverse. If they successfully capture the essence of the character, fans are likely in for an enthralling experience when the game is released.
Players Will Not Need to Wonder if it was Ever Canon to the Arkhamverse
As a gamer, I can say that with Suicide Squad, Monolith finally gets a chance to pen its unique narrative without being tied to any previous storylines, unlike Gotham Knights. You see, when Gotham Knights was first announced, there were questions about whether it belonged in the Arkhamverse or not. The game seemed to continue after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight and was developed by the same team behind Batman: Arkham Origins. It also had a similar feel to those games with its characters and aesthetic. However, WB Games Montreal later made it clear that Gotham Knights wasn’t part of the Arkhamverse, much to the disappointment of some fans who wished it was.
In the case of Wonder Woman, t Kill the Justice League might find a compelling reason to return.
Currently, information about the “Wonder Woman” project is scarce, but given Monolith Productions’ past achievements with the “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” series, there’s a high likelihood that an engaging action-adventure game will be released. If their interpretation of the DC universe is as impressive as the Arkhamverse, then speculation about “Suicide Squad: KTJL” can effectively be laid to rest.
