Ed Boon Hints To More Mortal Kombat 1 DLC As Game Passes 5 Million Copies Sold

The future remains promising for Mortal Kombat 1, as creator Ed Boon hinted at ongoing plans for downloadable content (DLC) in a series of Twitter posts last night.

Initially, it’s worth noting that Mortal Kombat 1 has surpassed five million sales since its debut in September 2023. Moreover, this game is consistently ranked among the top 15 most actively played games on PlayStation 5 each week.

As a gamer, I’m super excited to share some news! Boon just dropped a hint about the release of Conan the Barbarian DLC for our favorite game, which hit the shelves on January 21st – marking it as the 11th DLC fighter in the game. But guess what? The fun doesn’t stop there! The T-1000 Terminator is set to join the roster next, making us gamers even more eager for the action!

As a passionate gamer, I’ve been hearing whispers about the potential conclusion of DLC for our favorite fighter game. The less-than-stellar sales of Kombat Pack 2 and Khaos Reigns expansion seem to have sparked these rumors. However, Boon, the man behind the scenes, hasn’t explicitly talked about another Kombat Pack or story expansion. But he did hint that there’s more in store for us gamers!

Now that Conan is available for players, we’re thrilled to continue our journey, looking forward to developing more Downloadable Content in the future,” he wrote.

The ending of Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC was initiated by a well-known franchise leaker, who asserted that the development of Kombat Pack 3 and an additional storyline were abandoned at NetherRealm Studios. However, they also mentioned that there could be some guest characters (“a kameo or two”) added to the game after Conan the Barbarian and T-1000, considering the work that had been completed already.

NetherRealm hasn’t fully addressed those claims.
