The “Age of Darkness” is a game where you fight to keep back hordes of monstrous enemies. Engaging in combat with supernatural beings can have profound psychological impacts, and within the game, these mental strains are portrayed through the Emboldened and Horrified status effects.
In the style of other strategy games blending RPG aspects, a diverse range of factors can influence units in “Age of Darkness“. However, among these, Emboldened and Horrified stand out as particularly crucial. These are fundamental gameplay mechanics that players should understand if they aim to counteract the encroaching darkness.
Emboldened and Horrified Mechanic in Age of Darkness
As your troops engage and conquer Nightmares, they will gradually start emanating a glow. This indicates that they have become Empowered. During this empowered state, an Empowered unit gains extra health, damage, and additional perks tailored to their faction. Units from the Order gain more health, whereas units from the Rebellion deal more damage. Each unit has an Empower gauge situated just beneath their health bars – once filled, they will receive the boost.
Strengthening your troops and overpowering opponents is primarily how you Boost morale. This process can be sped up with certain characters, such as Edwin, who enhances Embolden points by 10% through his aura. Additionally, there’s a Blessing that provides troops with 25% Courage Points daily.
Horrified
The State of Terror, being the counterpart to Empowerment, diminishes the harm, speed at which targets move, and rate at which their health regenerates. Units may find themselves in a state of Terror if they either endure damage from specific enemy assaults or venture through The Veil during Death Nights. Empowered units remain immune to this state of Terror.
As a gamer, I usually strive to steer clear of being terrified in any game scenario. But when I’m part of the Volatist faction, things take an interesting twist. In this case, being terrified isn’t a setback; it’s an advantage! Unlike other factions, Volatist units don’t get Emboldened. Instead, they gain enhanced stats when they’re terrified. This quirky trait is central to the Volatists’ gameplay, and I find myself eagerly seeking opportunities to leverage this distinctive faction feature whenever I’m commanding the Volatists on the battlefield.
How to Remove Horrified Status
To remove the “Horrified” status from your units, position them close to a substantial light source such as a Fire Sconce, Fire Tower, or the Keep. These bright areas will additionally restore health to any non-combat units located within their vicinity.
In battle situations, fear-struck troops tend to perform poorly. To ensure optimal defense, incorporate Fire Sconces and Fire Towers into your base fortifications as standard elements. Position at least one of these close to your entranceways, and protect them from destruction during an attack.
