Summary
- Pokemon TCG Pocket announced its third-ever expansion, Space-Time Smackdown.
- The new set will be focued on Generation 4 Pokemon and launch on January 29.
- Trading is coming to Pokemon TCG Pocket on January 28.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has announced its upcoming expansion, titled “Space-Time Showdown.” It marks the third card collection introduced to the Pokémon TCG Pocket since its debut.
The widely played mobile game was launched at the end of October 2024 featuring the Genetic Apex card expansion, encompassing a total of 286 cards. Later, in mid-December 2024, DeNA introduced the Mythical Island set to Pokemon TCG Pocket, bringing an additional 86 cards into play.
On January 23rd, DeNA unveiled the third expansion for the game titled Space-Time Smackdown. As earlier speculated, this announcement confirmed that the next expansion for Pokemon TCG Pocket will center around monsters from Generation 4. True to form, the reveal trailer showcased Gen 4 legendary creatures Dialga and Palkia prominently, indicating their roles as the focal points of the upcoming expansion’s two themed booster packs. Moreover, each of these legendary figures will have an Ex card in the new collection.
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Space-Time Smackdown Coming on January 29
The trailer for the upcoming expansion has disclosed that Space-Time Smackdown will make its debut on January 29th, which is roughly six weeks after Mythical Island’s arrival. As Space-Time Smackdown includes two booster packs instead of one like Mythical Island, we can expect a larger number of Pokemon TCG Pocket cards to be introduced. However, it will still have fewer cards than the Genetic Apex set with its three packs. In essence, this expansion is projected to consist of approximately 160-170 cards in total.
In the trailer for the upcoming expansion, only a few cards were unveiled such as Dialga Ex, Palkia Ex, Cresselia, and Gible. The Generation 4 starter Pokemon were featured in the video, along with a Cynthia trainer card. Among these, Dialga Ex seems to be the card with the greatest potential impact on the game, particularly due to its Metallic Turbo move. Although dealing 30 damage for two Energy isn’t impressive, the real advantage of this attack lies in attaching two Metal Energy to a Pokemon on your opponent’s bench, which is quite an exceptional tactical move. As a result, Dialga Ex may finally make Metal decks effective in the Pokemon TCG Pocket game.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Adding Trading Ahead of Space-Time Smackdown Set
In the latest trailer, DeNA unveiled that the trading feature in Pokemon TCG Pocket will become available a day early, on January 28. This is just one day before the launch of the Space-Time Smackdown set. Although it has been confirmed that all expansion sets for the game will be rotated, there’s no sign yet that Genetic Apex will be withdrawn from Pokemon TCG Pocket, so original booster packs should still be accessible for opening once Space-Time Smackdown is released on the 29th.
