This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
Summary
- Kaido’s tremendous strength was always a mystery.
- Kaido has the blood of the Ancient Giants, making him not fully human.
- Kaido and Yamato both carry horns, indicating their Ancient Giant blood.
Oda is a writer who consistently shares details about characters from both past and present within the story. Even though Kaido was heavily involved during the Four Emperors Arc, he remains an intriguing character in the current narrative. As the events unfold in the world of One Piece, Kaido’s personality has been given additional depth.
Fans have finally seemed to uncover a response to one of their long-standing questions about Kaido’s background. Since the details of his past were never thoroughly explored in the story, it was expected that fragments would be gradually disclosed later on. The Final Saga has delivered on this expectation and provided fans with information about where he originates from and his true nature.
Kaido’s Tremendous Strength And The Secrets Behind It
- Kaido Was Always A Confusing Specimen
- Kaido’s Strength Is Massive Even Without His Devil Fruit
In chapter 795 of One Piece, Kaido made his debut, leaving fans spellbound due to his monstrous appearance. Despite his humanoid shape, Kaido appeared as something more than human in both the anime and manga, being depicted as invincible. His title as the strongest creature alive reinforced this notion. Standing towering over Whitebeard, who was already exceptionally tall, Kaido’s size was awe-inspiring. What truly set him apart, however, were his two enormous horns – a feature unheard of in the One Piece world for humans, unless they possessed abilities granted by the Devil Fruit.
On land, air, and sea, he’s the one known as the strongest creature alive. – Narrator
Kaido’s Devil Fruit granted him the powers of an Azure Dragon, making him extraordinarily powerful. However, even without his Devil Fruit, in his ordinary human form, Kaido possessed strength so immense that he could obliterate opponents with a single strike of his club. It’s evident that his strength was not typical of a human; rather, it was monstrous and overwhelming.
It’s interesting to note that Kaido’s humanity has never been definitively proven. If he were human, we would have surely learned about it through the story or the Vivre Cards, yet Oda decided not to disclose this information. As a result, fans are now aware of the reasons behind his ambiguous status.
Kaido And The Oni Race— The Secret Is Finally Made Clear
Kaido Called Himself An Oni, And Now Fans Know Why
It has long been speculated among fans that Kaido might not be entirely human. Various theories have emerged, some proposing that he is an Oni, others suggesting he’s a dragon who consumed the Oni Fruit, and even some humorously claiming he’s a Poneglyph. Regardless of their validity, these theories piqued everyone’s curiosity. However, a hint was provided to the fans when Kaido engaged in battle with none other than Yamato. Fans recognize Yamato for possessing similar extraordinary strength and size as Kaido, and both sport horns. Intriguingly, during their fight atop Onigashima, Kaido stated to Yamato that friendships with humans are worthless due to the Oni blood they carry. This was the first indication from Oda that there exists a significant difference between humans and Kaido’s race.
You have the blood of the Oni. You aren’t meant to be friends with humans. – Kaido
As a youngster, I often daydreamed about creating a manga featuring an electrifying final act. Could I possibly pull it off? Now, the Wano arc is nearly complete, and preparations are all but over. Can you believe it took me 25 years to get here? But don’t worry if you join in now because from this moment on…it’s going to be an exhilarating journey! I will unravel the enigmas of this world through my art! It promises to be a thrilling ride! Buckle up and hang tight, as I invite you to stay along with me for a little while longer! – Oda
Readers had faithfully assumed that Oda would unveil the solution to this enigma during the Wano Country Arc at some juncture; yet, the response they were anticipating never materialized. Even after Kaido was defeated and postwar festivities ensued, readers did not receive any confirmation from Oda regarding Kaido and Yamato’s race. However, it appears that the concluding storyline has finally brought clarity to fans on this matter.
Kaido And Yamato Have The Blood Of The Ancient Giants
Horns Are A Sign Of Ancient Giant Blood
In the “Elbaf” storyline of “One Piece,” Oda has unveiled a significant revelation about Kaido’s background that fans have been eagerly anticipating. Contrary to appearances, Kaido is not human but carries the blood of Ancient Giants instead. This fact was made clear in Elbaf, where it was established that characters like Loki and Harald also carried this ancestry, explaining their horns. While Loki embraced his heritage, Harald did not. The origins of Loki’s horns had puzzled fans for some time, but this latest development has provided an answer. Although Giants and Ancient Giants are distinct, it is plausible that they interbred in the past given their mixed features, such as the presence of horns. This revelation does not necessarily imply that Loki’s ancestors were Ancient Giants directly. Instead, it suggests that the ancestral blood has been passed down through generations, imbuing special strength in those who possess it.
Similarly for humans, it’s plausible that if someone in the past had descendants with Ancient Giants (which isn’t out of the question given Big Mom’s children with Tontatta), these offspring would have a blend of both races. They would possess humanoid bodies but exhibit characteristics typical of Ancient Giants, such as enormous size, horns, extraordinary strength, and other peculiar traits.
At some stage, Kaido undoubtedly has Ancient Giant blood running through his veins. This ancestry is now also carried by Yamato, which is the reason behind her title Oni Princess.
It’s likely that Oda will delve deeper into this intriguing concept in the future storyline of One Piece, although more details are still forthcoming. However, it appears that a major enigma has been unraveled at last. The implications for the narrative as it unfolds aren’t clear yet, but given its relevance to the Final Saga, it’s certain to be momentous.
