If you weren’t aware, Ubisoft has postponed the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows for a second time. Initially scheduled for November 2024, the game was first moved to February, but now it’s been further delayed, this time to March.
As a dedicated gamer, I can tell you that instead of rushing the release, it appears the devs are giving extra love and care to certain aspects of the game, ensuring a smoother experience for all of us when it finally drops.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Needed More Time For “Roofs”
During a recent conversation, the director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Charles Benoit, explained that the one-month delay in the release date primarily focused on refining and polishing the game. This adjustment didn’t alter any major game systems, but it did involve tweaking “a few elements in progression to enhance engagement” and making some balance adjustments.
The primary aspect the studio aimed to modify was the game’s parkour system, which presented unique challenges in Feudal Japan due to the intricate architecture. Benoit pointed out, “The Japanese roofs are incredibly complex,” he said. “They were perhaps the most complex structures I’ve ever dealt with if we compare it to Odyssey and Syndicate. We required specialized codes and custom animations to ensure a seamless, fluid transition for the parkour system. This is one of the specific pieces of feedback we received, and we’ve been working diligently to improve it over the past few months.
Although repeated delays for a game are usually not favorable, here’s hoping it turns out well for Ubisoft given their challenging year in 2024. The publisher, grappling with difficulties, has experienced setbacks as its flagship title, Star Wars Outlaws, didn’t meet sales targets. In fact, an older Star Wars game (Star Wars Jedi: Survivor) surpassed it in retail sales.
Given the critical state of affairs, Ubisoft is considering a partnership with the massive Chinese corporation, Tencent, in order for Yves Guillemot and his family to maintain their control over the company.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on March 20 on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
