- Reports claim Sony is addressing performance issues with the PS5 Pro to improve the gameplay experience.
- The PS5 Pro has sold well despite disc drive shortages and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution problems affecting certain games.
According to reports, Sony has been addressing the major issue that has affected the performance of some games on the PlayStation 5 Pro since its release. Although many PS5 games have been optimized for the PlayStation 5 Pro, a small number of titles do not perform well on this mid-generation console. However, it appears that the situation could see significant improvement in the near future.
On November 7, 2024, the upgraded PS5 model, dubbed the PS5 Pro, hit the market. Although it boasts the same game library as a standard PS5, this enhanced console is designed to deliver games in higher resolutions and frame rates. Its GPU operates at 45% greater speed compared to the regular PS5. The PS5 Pro retails for $700, but lacks a disc drive, which raised some eyebrows upon its debut. Post-release, the main concern has been that certain games like the remake of Silent Hill 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor don’t perform optimally on it. For instance, the PS5 Pro’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) can lead to graphical issues when playing these specific titles.
Currently, a developer involved in the creation of “Truck Driver: The American Dream” has stated that Sony has been issuing multiple versions of the PlayStation 5’s System Software (PSSR), and that they are covertly addressing performance glitches associated with these releases. The developer has further mentioned that future updates for “Truck Driver” will incorporate the most recent version of PSSR. Although it remains uncertain whether these advancements in technology will effectively resolve all performance issues across other PS5 Pro games like “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor”, it appears that Sony is actively acknowledging and working to equip third-party developers with the necessary tools to rectify these problems.
Sony is Reportedly Fixing PS5 Pro’s Performance Issues In Some Games
As a devoted PS5 Pro owner, I’ve encountered more than just PSSR issues. Currently, there’s a scarcity of PS5 disc drives in the market that’s causing quite a stir. This shortage is largely due to scalpers who inflate prices and snap up these devices the moment they hit the shelves, thanks to low supply.
Despite facing various issues at launch, the PS5 Pro managed to sell strongly, as suggested by Mat Piscatella’s analysis from Circana’s gaming division. In fact, its sales are comparable to those of the PS4 Pro, which is quite impressive given its high price tag of $700. Furthermore, it’s expected that the production shortages and disc drive problems associated with the PS5 Pro will be resolved soon, enhancing the enjoyment of users.
