This guide is based on a Normal difficulty playthrough of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black – Chapter 1 Walkthrough (All Secrets, Chests, & Collectibles)

Start/Chest 1 and Chest 2

The opening chapter of “Ninja Gaiden 2 Black” plunges players immediately into a battle at the footsteps of ‘Muramasa’s.’ Here, you will engage in skirmishes with several adversaries as you grasp the essentials of combat, mastering light and heavy attacks, as well as evasive maneuvers.

After the first skirmish concludes, a sequence will unfold, and then another battle will ensue. Once things have settled down, make your way to the alleyway to Muramasa’s shop (on your left if you’re facing it). You’ll stumble upon a hidden treasure chest there, which contains a “Herb of Spiritual Life”.

As a gamer, I discovered another Herb of Spiritual Life hidden within Muramasa’s establishment. Once I’ve finished my business there, I’ll exit the shop and follow the path to the left.

To replenish a little health, you can use the herbs for spiritual life by pressing the ‘down’ key on the control pad. However, remember to select them from your quick access menu.

Make your way past the gate, then dash along the wooden trail until you find the safe spot to rest. Touching the statue there will fully restore Ryu’s health. But keep in mind that you’ll encounter a few enemies on your way first.

Chest 3

The door to the right of the save point dragon statue will open once you save your progress.

Enter the structure for another round of confronting a duo of ne’er-do-wells. At the termination of the corridor, you’ll come across a radiant treasure chest filled with some Blue Essence, a substance that can heal Ryu’s injuries.

Chest 4

Make your way down the next corridor, and you’ll encounter some adversaries leaping along the walls. After dealing with them, jump into the pit in the ground to discover a chest housing the “Scroll of Shadowless Footsteps” technique.

Fear not! There’s no need to stay here. Swiftly ascend the nearby ladder and employ the wall-running technique to leap across the chasm to the following area. Ensure you face the wall as you run, jump, and then you should manage to execute the move successfully.

Chest 5

Step into the adjoining room next, and you’ll find a trunk right away. However, be aware that there are some adversaries in this space, so consider dealing with them before you venture too far. The trunk holds the Scroll containing the instructions for the Reverse Wind Technique.

Chest 6 (Lives of the Thousand Gods)

Once you’ve handled the adversaries around here, don’t forget to investigate the chest situated at the altar in the room’s front (it’s quite noticeable). Inside, you’ll discover one of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black’s crucial artifacts: ‘Lives of the Thousand Gods’. This unique item will permanently boost Ryu’s maximum health level.

Crystal Skull

As a gamer, if you’ve just grabbed the Lives of the Thousand Gods from the altar we encountered, cast your eyes to the right side next. Over there, you’ll spot a radiant Crystal Skull glowing. After adding this collectible to your inventory, take a safe drop down – fear not about falling damage here. This will lead you to another section of the game level.

Chest 7

Venture into the adjacent room to engage some adversaries.

Unlock (or force open) the door close to the stairs.

Inside, you’ll discover a Life-Giving Herb of the Spirit.

Chest 8

Once you’ve picked up the healing artifact, make your way up the stairs where you’ll discover another treasure chest. Inside, you’ll find the “Art of the Inferno Scroll”. Mastering this new skill will draw enemy forces towards you.

Currently, you have the option to employ the potent technique known as Ninpo, which will turn your adversaries into nothing but ash. Keep in mind that each application of this skill depletes your Ki energy; however, replenishing it is simple — just gather Red Essences.

Chest 9

Climb the stairs located to the right of the last chest (if you’re facing it) to discover another chest. This one holds some Red Essence, the very same we discussed earlier. Gathering this will restore your ability to cast Ninpo. More power means easier victories.

Next, just head through the door near the treasure chest (pictured below):

Advance along the way, and additional adversaries will come at you through a barrier. Use Ninpo at a distance to gain an advantage before the battle. Jump and wall-run across to the opposite side, then keep following the path until you reach another break in the ground.

As a fan, here’s how I’d rephrase it: To reach the other side, you’ve got to grab hold of that protruding pole on the wall. However, before making your leap, it would be wise to handle any adversaries that stand in your way. Once across, brace yourself for a few more enemies (my apologies!).

After handling them, proceed along the route to your right past the Warning sign to discover an old-fashioned Saving Spot.

Right in front of the safe spot, there’s a prepared figure you can inspect to master the “Flying Bird Technique.” With this skill, Ryu can perform a back-and-forth flip on two adjacent walls by running up a wall and persistently tapping the jump button.

Step out into the blooming cherry blossom landscape; after crossing a nearby small bridge, make a left turn to confront some adversaries.

Once you’ve defeated your adversaries, feel free to jump into the shallow waters ahead and make a beeline for the other side where a treasure chest waiting nearby a different bridge holds Red Essence, which will replenish your Ki.

Once you see a wall made of bamboo, take a right turn and keep going. Then, you’ll find yourself running down some stairs for another encounter ahead.

Following the scuffle, persist onward, and soon you’ll encounter a fellow loosed arrows from a span over a body of water. Utilize your Ninjutsu techniques to neutralize him.

Chest 10

Following your passage over the bridge, you’ll come across a ladder situated on the right side. Descend this ladder and you’ll discover a chest containing some Blue Essence.

Chest 11 (Life of the God)

As I tread along on this gaming level, I’ll keep moving forward towards some minions standing in my way. After dispatching them, I’ll venture towards the cul-de-sac where I’ll stumble upon a chest, and inside that chest lies the ‘Life of the God’.

Face the direction you originally descended and make your way back to the ladder. Proceed ahead to encounter additional adversaries, leveraging the pillars to jump over the holes in the ground as you go.

Chest 12

Following a series of encounters with more foes, you’ll eventually stumble upon a ladder and a Safe Zone. Climb the ladder and promptly veer to your right to discover yet another treasure chest containing some Red Essence.

As you spin about and hasten ahead, you stumble upon a lifeless figure on the ground, accompanied by the enigmatic Flying Swallow Technique Scroll. Proceeding further, you encounter a sizable horde of adversaries up ahead.

Be sure to rely on your Ninpo when you start feeling overpowered. You may also find some supplies with you in case they’re needed.

Once the fight ends, a door will open to the large building.

Chest 13

Upon entering, glance to your left to spot a container holding some Scarlet Essence (remember to keep some for the impending battle).

On the opposite side of the room is a Dragon statue for you to heal and save.

Lunar Staff

Now, let me emphasize this crucial point: Please pick up the recently acquired staff, known as the Lunar Staff. You can find it conveniently placed in the center of the room.

Following that, exit the room and proceed directly towards a freshly discovered passage. Straight ahead, you’ll come across a corpse bearing the Scroll of Ultimate Technique.

This way, the sentence is easier to read and understand, maintaining the original meaning while using simpler language.

Keep advancing towards a heavily guarded bridge, a prime moment for demonstrating the amazing move you’ve recently mastered.

As I delve deeper into this game, I stumble upon a traditional Japanese house. Inside, I quickly lay my hands on the Scroll of the Ultimate Directive. Swinging left from the room, I find myself in a tranquil courtyard teeming with adversaries, ready for combat!

Chest 14

After clearing the space, proceed by entering the freshly opened house door. Inside, you’ll discover another treasure chest. This one contains Yellow Essence, useful for making purchases at the nearby store.

Suddenly, two ninja-like figures will appear seemingly out of thin air, shattering walls as they emerge. After dealing with them, make your way back through the hallway they exited from, to exit the building. However, be prepared as you’ll encounter a smaller space filled with additional adversaries (and possibly a well)!

You can also upgrade weapons and purchase items at the Shop!

Defeat the baddies and jump in the well to continue Chapter 1 of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black.

Chest 15

As you descend into the newly discovered region, you’ll come across a spot where it’s clear that you’ll have to wall jump to progress to the following segment. However, if you cast your gaze towards the right, you’ll discover another chest containing a Herb of Spiritual Life.

Chest 16

Go ahead and perform the wall-running maneuver to get to the next platform. Keep going, and you’ll see a glowing chest in the distance with a Spiritual Life Herb inside.

Follow the same trail you recently walked on, and at a certain point, you’ll notice a section where the railing is missing – you could utilize this opening as a step to descend to the lower level.

If you let go, you’ll encounter a blind alley. Spin around to discover a corpse clutching the Furious Wind Technique Scroll.

Heading forward on this path might lead me into a pickle with some foes popping up, making my gaming session a tad more challenging. But don’t worry, just keep moving. Soon enough, you’ll get a break to unwind and watch an exciting cutscene unfold. Once it wraps up, brace yourself as you’ll find yourself in a fresh area, facing off against two clawed adversaries.

Use the nearby Save Point once the area is clear to recover Ryu’s health.

Chest 17

Keep on the primary trail until you come across a pair of staircases, one leading upward and the other descending. At this point, go downstairs to discover a chest that holds a Devil’s Way Mushroom, which restores some of your Ki.

First, go back to the primary level and then ascend the alternate staircase. Up here, you’ll find enemies waiting to attack Ryu as soon as he arrives.

Following that, climb the following flight of stairs to discover yet another hidden treasure chest. Lo and behold, it turns out to be another Herb of Existence’s Bounty!

You can go one floor down, turn left, and then take a right to go down a hallway.

As you move forward, you’ll notice a door open to your left. Inside that room, there’s a ladder positioned on the left side. Climb this ladder because it leads to an elevator shaft. Utilize your wall-jumping abilities to bounce off the walls, which will help you ascend higher.

In the freshly-introduced space, beware as hidden foes may attack! Clean up the surroundings and then proceed to your left where you’ll discover a Save Point in the form of a dragon statue.

Chest 18

Should you choose to proceed to your right, not only will you stumble upon a treasure chest filled with Grains of Spiritual Life, but you’ll also have an opportunity to browse through the merchandise at the shop.

If you haven’t upgraded any of your weapons so far, it might be a good moment to do it now. You should have accumulated sufficient Yellow Essence by now, but remember to choose the weapon that feels most familiar and suitable for you.

Head up the stairs by the save point to reach another gang of villains.

After the battle concludes, head towards the door within the room, as a scene unfolds. Prepare yourself for the opening boss fight in Ninja Gaiden 2: Black.

How to Beat Shadow Ninja Rasetsu

As the primary formidable adversary in the game, Shadow Ninja Rasetsu isn’t excessively challenging to defeat. To assist you all, here are some strategies for victory:

1. Understand his patterns and weaknesses.
2. Use strategic attacks based on his movements.
3. Time your dodges and counterattacks effectively.
4. Don’t be afraid to retreat if necessary, then regroup and plan your next move.
5. Utilize any available power-ups or items to give yourself an edge in the battle.

Don’t be afraid of using any Ki-replenishing items to use your Art of the Inferno Ninpo three times. Each blast can take out a good chunk of health.
Hold your Strong Attack button to charge up a really strong Ultimate move(Y/Triangle).
You can use your healing items while getting attacked.
Keep your distance.
Try using the Lunar Staff for the fight if you’re having issues with the Dragon Sword.
