The recently released Gran Turismo 7 has been confirmed as Sony’s top-earning game within the racing franchise in the United States, according to a recent report.

Gran Turismo 7 Continues To Sell Years After Release

According to Mat Piscatella, the Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana (previously known as NPD), Gran Turismo has taken the top spot in terms of revenue and is fifth in sales unit-wise among all titles released under the Gran Turismo franchise.

According to a report leaked by GTPlanet (as of December 2023), Gran Turismo Sport has achieved sales of approximately 12.98 million units worldwide, with around 3.11 million of those in the US market. Gran Turismo 7 currently ranks fifth on that list in terms of total units sold. This implies that to surpass both GT5 and GT4, it needs to sell between 3.44 million (GT5’s total sales) and 3.74 million (GT4’s total sales).

Despite Gran Turismo 7 leading in revenue, it’s not on top in terms of sales. This is because Gran Turismo 3 was initially sold at a lower price of $40 when it was first released, and many copies were also included in console bundles back then. On the other hand, Gran Turismo 7 was priced at $70 for the PS5 version and $60 for the PS4 version upon release, which might have affected its sales numbers compared to Gran Turismo 3.

Since Gran Turismo 7 (GT7) continues to receive regular updates monthly, and there hasn’t been any official announcement about Gran Turismo 8 as of now, it’s likely that Polyphony Digital’s latest racing simulator will keep selling well and ultimately become the best-selling title in its category.
