Over the upcoming weekend, the inaugural European Major for the Call of Duty League will take place in Madrid, Spain. This significant tournament promises excitement for fans from all over Europe, as they’ve eagerly awaited a CDL event since more than five years ago.
Lately, Optic Texas clinched the top position going into the competition, amassing a 6-1 score during the qualifying round and capping it off with a stylish victory against Toronto Ultra.
I’m really excited about this big event – I’ll be there personally, bringing you the freshest Call of Duty esports updates in real time.
OpTic On Top
Optic Texas, winner of last year’s Call of Duty Championship, currently leads the standings this season. Atlanta FaZe is in second place, climbing up the rankings after a slow start to the current season. Their ascent was significantly boosted by winning the first CDL Minor tournament, which provided the team with valuable CDL points.
At the opposite spectrum is the Vegas Falcons, a relatively new addition to the CDL. So far, they haven’t managed to snag a victory in this season, and their 14% map win rate is among the lowest we’ve recorded.
Over the past few weeks, OpTic Texas has been shining brighter than ever, building upon their success of winning the CDL Championship last year on home ground. The brief turmoil surrounding Pred’s departure from the team seems to be fading away, and with Huke stepping in for his spot, the team is gearing up to make a big impact at Major I.
In the Major tournament held in Madrid, OpTic Texas will initially face off against the Miami Heretics. This encounter hasn’t taken place since Major IV during the Modern Warfare 3 season and it’s been over half a year since they last met on the battlefield. Although the Heretics have only managed to win one out of every four matches this year, they should not be underestimated due to their home team advantage at the upcoming Major.
Regardless of the outcome, the Call of Duty League is set to host a monumental weekend event. Thousands are expected at the Madrid venue, with countless others tuning in globally. I’ll be there, behind-the-scenes, gathering exclusive updates and interviews for TopMob Esports.
