In contrast to the VR-exclusive “Assassin’s Creed Nexus,” the latest installment in the series, titled “Assassin’s Creed Mirage,” aimed to rekindle the essence of the franchise’s early action-adventure days. Hailed as a commemoration of the franchise’s 15th anniversary, “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” sought to revive stealth and parkour as key gameplay elements, while minimizing role-playing mechanics. Released in September 2023, “Mirage” received generally positive reviews and seemed to meet Ubisoft’s sales targets, but since then, there has been no further news about it.
Fast-forward 16 months, and whispers are circulating about potential story expansion packs for the game ‘Assassin’s Creed Mirage’. A recent article from French publication Les Echos suggests that Ubisoft is collaborating with Saudi company Savvy Games Group to develop DLC for ‘Mirage’. It’s quite uncommon for a game to receive story-based DLC this long after its release, especially when no such content was available initially. However, another rumor has surfaced which may help explain this recent development.
From this point forward, everything discussed is largely dependent on leaked information and unconfirmed reports, so it’s important to approach it all with a healthy dose of skepticism.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Might Get DLC Ahead of a Nintendo Switch 2 Port
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Could Be Coming to The Nintendo Switch 2
A few days before the anticipated unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, YouTuber Nate the Hate posted an episode of his podcast named “Nintendo 2025 Predictions: Anticipated Reveal Date of Switch 2 & Expected Third-Party Backing; 3D Mario & Beyond.” In this broadcast, Nate the Hate hinted that Ubisoft is allegedly developing over six games for Nintendo’s upcoming portable hybrid console. These titles include adaptations of The Division and Rainbow Six Siege, along with a potential compilation of Mario + Rabbids.
Nate “the Hate” also suggested that at launch, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is expected to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2, while a port of Assassin’s Creed Shadows may be released for the Switch 2 later in its lifespan. It would be advantageous for both Ubisoft and Nintendo, as the former would have more people playing the game, and the latter could demonstrate the enhanced capabilities of the Switch 2 compared to its earlier model.
How Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s Rumored DLC Could Entice Switch 2 Owners
To entice Nintendo Switch 2 players, Ubisoft should provide compelling reasons to purchase a potential port of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Given that the game has been out for more than a year, many fans have likely already experienced it. Additionally, since Mirage can technically run on devices like the Steam Deck, the novelty of playing it on-the-go may no longer be appealing.
The potential DLC for “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” could fill in some gaps in the story for dedicated fans, who felt that the game didn’t delve as deeply into protagonist Basim’s narrative as they expected. This additional content, focusing on Basim’s adventures between the events of “Mirage” and “Valhalla”, might be an enticing offer from Ubisoft to draw players back into the game again.
