Summary
- Donkey Kong Country Returns HD has a co-op issue that makes certain parts of the game unnecessarily challenging in multiplayer.
- The problem originates from the 3DS version and has been carried over to the Switch; fans are disappointed with the lack of changes.
- Gamers are hoping for a future patch to fix the co-op problem, but there is no official response from the developer or Nintendo yet.
After the launch of “Donkey Kong Country Returns HD” on the Nintendo Switch, some players encountered a problem unique to cooperative play when attempting to jump on enemies within the game. This issue does not hinder solo players, but it significantly hinders the playability of “Donkey Kong Country Returns HD” in cooperative mode.
On January 16, the high-definition remake of the classic game, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, was unveiled. This version is an upgrade of the Wii-era game and incorporates additional content from the 3DS edition. However, prior to its release, there was some criticism from fans who felt that the game’s lack of unique content for the Switch, other than enhanced graphics, made it not worth a $60 price tag. Although fans will likely continue to argue about the worth of graphical enhancements, this is not the only controversy surrounding Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. Regrettably, a recent problem has emerged that may prevent it from being the definitive version of the platformer.
According to GamingReinvented’s YouTube channel, Kong Kompendium discovered an annoying issue in the HD version of Donkey Kong Country Returns for co-op play. In this problem, multiple players cannot bounce off the same enemy simultaneously, unlike the original Wii version where enemies remained interactive for a brief moment after being hit, allowing the co-op partner a chance to bounce off the same target. This issue is said to have been present since the 3DS version and it’s unclear why this limitation was also applied to the Switch version of the game.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Problem Makes Playing Some Levels in Co-Op Frustrating
In certain situations, it becomes quite apparent that allowing both players to leap off the same enemy within quick succession is not possible in the game Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. This restriction, which persists throughout the cooperative play, can be particularly annoying in later levels where jumping off enemies is crucial for moving forward. For instance, as demonstrated in Kong Kompendium’s gameplay, the Platform Panic level illustrates this problem clearly, with one player often forced to fall and die repeatedly to complete the level.
As a dedicated fan of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, I can certainly relate to the frustration shared by many gamers regarding the unchanged bouncing mechanics from the 3DS version, developed by Forever Entertainment. We’re all hoping for improvements in this area, perhaps in an upcoming patch. It’s encouraging to know that Kong Kompendium reached out to both Nintendo and Forever Entertainment about the enemy bouncing issue. However, at this point, we’re still waiting for any official word on whether or not it will be addressed. Here’s hoping for a smooth resolution soon!
