As a dedicated gamer, I’m excited about diving into a fresh action RPG titled “Eternal Strands“, a creation from the promising Yellow Brick Games. This game proudly showcases its inspirations, with epic boss battles that echo the grandeur of “Shadow of the Colossus” and a stamina system, as well as the ability to scale any surface, reminiscent of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”.
In the game titled “Eternal Strands“, it draws inspiration from other greats, but is there anything unique it brings to the table in the discussion? The story revolves around a group of nomads navigating a world ravaged by magic, and players take on the character of Brynn who explores locations to aid her traveling companions in rebuilding their community, stone by stone. Initially, it may seem tough, so here are some tips for beginners to make the initial stages of “Eternal Strands” less challenging.
6. Playing With Difficulty
What Kind Of Experience Do You Want
In line with many contemporary games, Eternal Strands includes different levels of difficulty. While the game isn’t inherently challenging, it can become quite sluggish when set above Easy mode. Moreover, the player’s preferred experience is generally mirrored by the level of challenge, particularly in combat scenarios.
If players desire an authentic survival feel in the game Eternal Strands, where both wolves and soldiers could potentially end their journey, consider increasing the difficulty level. For those who prefer a more balanced gaming experience, Easy might be more suitable. It may seem unusual to suggest Easy when Medium is often considered the ideal balance, but in this case, it applies. Additionally, players who wish to always see Brynn’s face should remember to disable the helmet option within the menu settings.
5. Follow The Story Until Dredger’s Mire
Unlock More To Fret Less
Players might find it more engaging to stay focused on the storyline until they reach Dredger’s Mire. This is the second part of the game, where events start to become intriguing from various perspectives. Additionally, completing the entire first area will grant access to beneficial features such as a fast travel system within Eternal Strands.
Unfortunately, players don’t have the freedom to teleport freely across the map. Instead, fast travel is limited to using specific Gates. Although it may not be as convenient as unlimited movement, it’s still a helpful feature compared to having no fast travel at all. You shouldn’t find it too challenging to reach Dredger’s Mire early on, as the initial hours are mainly composed of fetch and observation quests that can feel rather tedious. However, once fast travel becomes available, the gameplay should become more engaging.
4. How To Level Up
Gathering Materials To Upgrade The Caravan
Instead, players will collect materials dropped by monsters, found in chests, or obtained from breaking objects within the game world. The inventory capacity is quite restricted, so players can’t grab everything as they would in Minecraft. These materials are vital for crafting equipment at the home base, but they also serve a more significant purpose: upgrading the camp. Upgrading Casmyn, for instance, will provide additional inventory space in Eternal Strands, making it an essential upgrade for players to prioritize first.
3. Wear Headphones
Pay Attention To Your Caravan Crew
Generally speaking, using headphones during video games is often recommended for horror genres like the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2. This can intensify the gameplay and help players detect approaching dangers. However, in a game like Eternal Strands, it’s not necessary to wear headphones as there are no sneaky elements, but doing so will make it easier for players to hear their allies.
Brynn’s team members will offer insights if they have useful information regarding the ongoing mission. The quest indicators in this game aren’t top-notch, and the prompts could use some improvement. Therefore, paying attention to your companions can speed up reaching destinations as you won’t need to constantly refer to video tutorials.
2. Gear Progression
Learn When To Use The Best Materials
In Eternal Strands, players won’t automatically have a stockpile of items ready for crafting once they gather enough materials. Instead, they must actively search for and discover the recipes within the game world. The overall system might seem peculiar due to its unique approach to crafting, mapping, and leveling up, but Eternal Strands has its own appeal. It may take some time for players to adjust and find their rhythm, so patience is key.
Once players discover a recipe and produce an item, they’ll notice a difference in their gameplay. For instance, players initially wield a sword and shield combination, but later, they’ll acquire a bow. Approximately when players are approaching Dredger’s Mire, they’ll stumble upon blueprints to craft a Common Two-Hander. This upgrade will boost Brynn’s attack strength considerably, even though it may be slower, as most two-handed weapons tend to be in games. However, the Common Two-Hander is certainly worth crafting and equipping due to its effectiveness against groups of enemies.
1. Use The Physics Advantage
Or Avoid Enemies
In the game Eternal Strands, players will gain access to spells, and two particularly effective ones will be provided immediately. These spells allow players to use telepathic abilities akin to those of a Jedi, harnessing an imaginary force to lift enemies or objects. While this action forfeits the rewards from defeating them, challenging foes can still be thrown off cliffs. The only element lacking in these instances is the iconic Wilhelm Scream.
In another game-changing move, this additional spell can either immobilize foes or construct a barrier around them. The physics in Eternal Strands is quite extraordinary, making experimentation a significant part of the enjoyment. Watching a wolf dart about while leaving an expansive ice trail behind never fails to amuse. Naturally, since creatures only provide materials and not experience points, it’s perfectly fine to flee from them. However, as players progress, they’ll eventually require monsters for rarer crafting materials. For the initial playtime, though, it doesn’t make much difference. Instead, consider destroying various objects for a change.
