In a blog post published today, Sony announced that having a PlayStation Network account is no longer required for most of its PC versions of PlayStation hits, starting right away.

This action is taken following numerous discussions, criticisms, and expressions of dissatisfaction from players regarding the unusual condition that necessitates having an active PlayStation Network (PSN) account even for playing standalone games.
As stated by Sony, gamers can choose to associate their PlayStation Network account to enjoy some additional in-game perks; however, these bonuses do not affect the overall game advancement in any way.
The plan is to present linking PSN accounts as an optional perk for those who choose to do so, without requiring it from everyone else.” This change could bring relief to players in numerous countries where the PlayStation Network isn’t available, addressing one of the significant challenges faced by ‘Helldivers 2’ during its initial year.
The adjustments made thus far affect the following titles: God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Whether it will extend to additional games soon is uncertain, but this development is certainly a positive indicator.
PlayStation Network Bonuses
By connecting your PSN account to your computer, you’ll gain access to Sony’s unique trophies and friend management features. Notably, these trophies differ from Steam’s achievements. Additionally, each game offers exclusive bonuses such as cosmetic items for your in-game characters.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
With an instant unlock, you’ll have the coveted Nora Valiant costume, a hard-to-find and exceptionally beneficial item within the game, at your disposal.
God of War: Ragnarök
In the initial chest found within the Realm Between Realms, you’ll receive the Armor of the Black Bear collection, an armor set that was previously exclusive to New Game+. Additionally, you’ll be awarded a resource pack containing 500 Hacksilver and 250XP.

Upon opening the first treasure chest in the Realm Between Realms, you’ll get the Armor of the Black Bear set, an armor set that used to only be available during New Game+. You’ll also receive a resource pack filled with 500 Hacksilver and 250XP.
