This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Epilogue.
Summary
- Maki surpassed Toji Fushiguro.
- Maki’s heavenly restriction made her formidable.
- Maki had more potential to fulfill.
In the course of its publication, Jujutsu Kaisen, penned by Gege Akutami, introduced a host of captivating characters. It can be inferred that the series boasted numerous memorable characters, the development of whom could have led to their extraordinary prominence. Regrettably, many of these characters were overlooked and faded into obscurity. Nevertheless, Maki stands out as one who has not met a similar fate.
As an onlooker, I’ve always been captivated by Maki, a formidable warrior hailing from the Zenin Clan, in the mesmerizing world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Her powerful displays have left fans in awe, particularly after her true awakening. Maki’s might is often compared to Toji Fushiguro, a legendary combatant who came close to defeating Gojo during his youth. However, as the series draws to a close, it’s clear that Maki has outshone even the esteemed Toji Fushiguro in terms of strength.
Maki’s Awakening Led To Her Reaching Toji’s Level
- Maki’s Heavenly Restriction Made Her Formidable
- Maki Was Confirmed To Be As Strong As Toji
As an ardent sorceress hailing from the Zenin Clan, I’ve consistently faced obstacles in my pursuit of attaining higher ranks. The root cause of my struggles lies within my own clan, who seemed to relish in making life difficult for me. My primary predicament was a scarcity of cursed energy, a crucial resource that eluded me compared to my sister, Mai.
At the onset of our shared journey, it was unveiled that I possessed mere remnants of cursed energy, rendering even the detection of curses an arduous task for me. In stark contrast, my sister seemed to effortlessly perceive and manipulate these malevolent forces. Due to my inability to uphold the esteemed legacy of our clan, I was persistently marginalized and treated differently from my fellow members.
Another fierce human on par with Toji Fushiguro has finally been realized. — Narrator
In a tough turn of events, Maki faced immense hardship due to the unjust treatment meted out by her family, largely because they perceived her as weak. Despite her strong desire to disprove them, Maki never received an opportunity to do so. At a certain point, Maki aimed to demonstrate her worth by ascending to the leadership of the clan itself, even after being exiled. However, she swiftly understood that her efforts were futile because the narrow-minded members of the clan would not alter their ways. Realizing her self-worth was more significant than being engulfed by that unworthy family, Maki decided to move on and seek opportunities elsewhere.
The situation drastically changed once Maki and Mai were adopted by the family, initially suffering abuse. Later, Mai made a selfless sacrifice to protect Maki, absorbing the remaining tainted energy that she carried. As a result, Maki was freed from the cursed energy, causing a new phase in her life, mirroring Toji’s condition.
In the progression of the narrative, viewers were well aware that Toji Fushiguro exhibited monstrous qualities. This was evident through his intense battle with Gojo Satoru, which had been vividly portrayed in the storyline thus far. His performance, even against the mightiest adversaries, was nothing short of exceptional. Concurrently, a fresh demon named Maki, who had awakened following her sister’s sacrifice, demonstrated an equal level of danger and power. This development undeniably captivated the fans.
Maki Trained Harder During The Timeskip
The Shinjuku Showdown Arc Saw Everyone Leveling Up
Initially, Maki demonstrated an overwhelming power when she single-handedly wiped out her entire clan effortlessly. However, this was merely the beginning for Maki. With weapons like the Split Soul Katana and others at her disposal, Maki transformed into a formidable combatant that few could match. As the story progressed to the Culling Game arc, Maki unlocked her full potential. During this phase, she managed to sever ties with the Zenin clan, even defeating Naoya, reaching a new level of power. Throughout the Culling Game arc, Maki continued to grow exponentially, even surprising the King of Curses when he was in Megumi’s body. They exchanged powerful blows, and for a moment, it appeared they were equally matched. However, their differences in strength eventually became apparent later on.
In a manner similar to how I matched wits with Mahoraga, she grasps my methods more effectively compared to other sorcerers.
As Sukuna’s power within Megumi’s body intensified, so too did the power of other sorcerers, including Maki. It would have seemed unusual if every sorcerer in JJK had grown stronger during this time, except for Maki. All the sorcerers claimed to have put in intense training over a month to improve their chances against Sukuna. Given these circumstances, it can be inferred that Maki undoubtedly became stronger and surpassed Toji Fushiguro as the narrative of Jujutsu Kaisen unfolded further.
It was clear in her performance that Maki was more than capable of holding her own against Sukuna during their battles. She inflicted serious injuries on him with the Split Soul Katana, wounds he struggled to recover from. In fact, she managed to overpower Sukuna several times, demonstrating her physical superiority. Her impressive feats, such as stabbing the heart of the King of Curses, proved invaluable.
End Of Series Maki Was Likely Even Stronger
Maki Still Had More Potential To Fulfill
Though Maki significantly contributed to the Shinjuku Showdown arc in Jujutsu Kaisen, it’s important to note that her performance at that time didn’t represent her full potential, as she was still quite young during the events. As she continues to mature, it’s clear that Maki is set to surpass Toji Fushiguro in strength. Similar to how Yuji and Yuta are yet to fully realize their abilities, Maki too seems poised for further growth and development.
In approximately 2035, Yuta held significant power within the Gojo clan, and it seemed to viewers that he was already married to Maki around this time. By the year 2080, there’s strong evidence that Yuta and Maki remained together, as their grandchildren were introduced to fans. At this point in her life, Maki would be quite elderly and significantly less powerful than her prime self. However, if she was able to achieve power levels far surpassing Toji, then even in 2080, the older Maki might still have been stronger than the one who fought Sukuna during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc of JJK.
It’s likely that Gege Akutami, creator of JJK, will provide fans with a sneak peek into Maki’s character if he produces some standalone JJK chapters soon. Until that happens, fans must settle for what they already know about Maki from the main storyline and the surprising yet captivating epilogue of the tale.
At long last, chapter 271 of Jujutsu Kaisen, the much-anticipated finale, dropped on September 29th, 2024. Readers can delve into this thrilling series via Manga Plus and Shonen Jump mobile applications.
