Phantom Brave: The Hidden Champion” introduces Marona, a special being known as a Chroma, who can perceive Phantoms and imprison them within objects during each encounter. In contrast to Marona, the units you can deploy in combat are these very Phantoms, which must first be imprisoned (Confined) to assume a tangible form on the battlefield. Mastering the Confine technique is crucial for your success on the battlefield.
In the game Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero, the location where a Phantom is confined impacts their abilities significantly. Players should be mindful of the items at their disposal during each battle, as these can have a substantial effect on how their units perform. This guide aims to explore the ways confinement affects your characters in combat and offers strategies for maximizing an item’s unique features.
The Confine Command
In the unique ability of Marona, known as the Confinement Command, you can select an object within reach and make a Phantom take control of it, transporting that Phantom to the battlefield for a number of turns based on their REMOVE attribute (which decreases each time the Unit acts). Any item that can be carried can also be controlled by your Phantoms with this command. So, as long as there’s an item on the map and you haven’t exceeded the limit, you can summon additional Phantoms.
When calling forth units using various items, it’s crucial to inspect each item first as they carry specific effects and safeguards that determine the characteristics of the summoned creature. As game challenges intensify, assessing your available items and understanding their impact on the Phantoms you’re summoning becomes increasingly vital. In the upcoming discussion, we will delve into Item Effects and Protections, the key factors shaping the Phantom that emerges from an item.
By tossing an object to a desired spot prior to using the ability “Confine,” you can strategically place your units in unconventional positions and optimize their setup for their turn. In urgent situations, you can also throw an item that Marona (or another unit) is holding, then use that item as a target for Confine. Since items carried onto the map have a 100% recovery chance, you’ll get them back after completing the map.
Item Effects & Protections
When choosing an item to apply the Confine effect, it’s crucial to focus on two key aspects: Protections and Item Effects. To begin, let’s discuss Protections. These are signified by glowing lines linking objects visible on your map, similar to what you see in the picture provided. To view an item’s Protection Effect, simply hover over it with your cursor and press the display stats button (L1 for PS4/5). In the given example, the Rock, Flower, and Palm Tree all share the protection “Attack/Defense +30%”, which increases both Attack and Defense by 30% for any items under that protection.
In other words, although it doesn’t serve much purpose for a Rock or Plant (except possibly using it as a makeshift weapon, which is feasible in this game), this feature is extremely beneficial to your Phantoms. They will continue to enjoy this protective effect whenever you summon them to the item. This protective effect is typically connected to two or more items and remains active as long as at least two of these linked items are present on the map.
Removing a Protection effect can prove challenging because it either forces all other protected items off the map or destroys them permanently, making them hard to eliminate. This becomes particularly tough when you’ve transformed one of those items into a strong defensive unit to shield it from enemy efforts to remove it. In such cases, you might want to consider transforming it as a strategic move if there’s an effect you heavily depend on.
As a passionate player, I’ve noticed that every item comes with its unique influence, which can be spotted in the effects section I mentioned earlier or as an icon right below the item itself. To illustrate using the same example, that rock carries the “DEF+10%” effect, enhancing a unit’s DEF by 10% when they are confined within it. Carefully observing the on-field effects can help you significantly amplify your units’ power, as you can strategically leverage their strengths to achieve victory.
Plunder Chance
When assigning a Unit to an item, take note of their Loot Probability. You can see this statistic when choosing a unit for Confinement, as demonstrated in the image provided. This value represents the likelihood that the unit will “Loot” the item upon being Confined, effectively carrying it off the map and adding it to your inventory later. This feature is beneficial for obtaining valuable weapons and items you’ve discovered.
Instead of discarding items with beneficial effects or protections from your map when they’re still necessary for your strategy, it might be advantageous to select a unit with a lower chance of looting if you aim to keep an item permanently once its REMOVE period ends. Characters such as the Thief and Scrabbit often have a high chance of looting, but this probability tends to improve with the character’s level. However, it appears that the level of the item you’re attempting to loot may also impact the odds.
