Once again, Geoff Keighley’s non-E3 summer gaming event, known as Summer Game Fest, returns for the year 2025! This exciting event will take place in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, spanning from June 7th to June 9th.
Summer Game Fest also coincides with the media-only Play Days event hosted by iam8bit.
A new business-to-business event is set to debut this year, spearheaded by Christopher Dring, the ex-head of GamesIndustry.Biz.
During the Summer Games Fest, it was not explicitly detailed what to anticipate, however, they announced that it would include influential figures from gaming, entertainment, and other sectors. These industry pioneers will come together on a single platform for enlightening dialogues.
Geoff Keighley emphasizes that this event will underscore significant shifts, hurdles, and prospects for the international video game sector, while also honoring the influential and dominant role of video games as a leading form of global entertainment.
Summer Games Fest Has Been Trying to Replace E3 For Years
As a gaming enthusiast, I must admit that this year’s Summer Game Fest didn’t quite live up to the grandeur of E3. However, it’s essential to remember that they were aiming high. The event unveiled the initial trailers for several games we’ve been eagerly waiting for, keeping our anticipation levels soaring!
Back in 2021, I was thrilled to finally witness the gameplay unveiling of Elden Ring. Fast forward two years, and my heart skipped a beat as the first trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was unleashed on the grand stage.
The program has unveiled several significant exclusives, yet many publishers are opting out of collective exhibitions such as this one to hold their own events or attend Keighley’s alternative event, The Game Awards instead.
For quite some time now, Nintendo has been organizing Nintendo Direct presentations, long before E3 events began. I remember catching one of the earliest Nintendo Directs from my hotel room in Los Angeles.
Both Sony and Xbox regularly host events throughout the year. In a recent development, Xbox recently conducted a Developer_Direct, revealing the launch dates for games such as Ninja Gaiden 4, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and South of Midnight. It seems publishers are starting to understand that it’s not always ideal to unveil significant news all at once.
As a fervent supporter, I’m eagerly anticipating this year’s B2B event might lure in additional publishers to join the fold. The future remains uncertain for now, but one thing is clear: come June, we’ll be on hand to bring you all the latest updates!
