Phil Spencer’s recent statement hints at the possibility of first-party Xbox games becoming available on other platforms in the future. We already knew that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was set for release on PlayStation 5 later this year, but now it looks like a classic Xbox game from yesteryears will also join the PS5 library this coming spring.
In simple terms, “Forza Horizon 5,” this year’s highly-anticipated open-world racing game, has officially transitioned from speculation to reality as it becomes the newest Xbox-published title to debut, following the rumors we shared last year.
The game’s official website has been updated with the following statement:
This upcoming spring, our team is thrilled to share that Forza Horizon 5 will make its debut on PlayStation 5! With around 900 cars at your disposal, numerous thematic game updates, two expansions, and a wealth of additional content, you’ll get to traverse Mexico’s stunning highways and participate in the Horizon Festival for the very first time.
In collaboration with Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games, the PlayStation 5 edition of Forza Horizon 5, developed by Panic Button, features the same game content as the Xbox and PC versions. Previously launched Car Packs, along with the Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure expansions, can also be purchased separately for this version.
We’re thrilled as more players join the Forza Horizon 5 community on PS5, adding fresh talent in creation, construction, and racing to our lively community. We can hardly wait to witness their creativity and skill!
Xbox and Phil Spencer Are Putting Their Money Where Their Mouth Is
There was a lot of doubt regarding how Microsoft’s Xbox brand would adapt to releasing their exclusive games on rival platforms. However, Phil Spencer has expressed his desire for players to enjoy Xbox titles in the environment that suits them best, be it console, PC, cloud, or other platforms. The release of Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation 5 marks the first tangible indication that they are serious about their intentions.
The upcoming title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, will remain multi-platform, even after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision. The recent exclusivity of games like Redfall and Starfield for Xbox has left some fans feeling uneasy. However, the announcement brings a sense of relief, as it signals a return to offering the game on multiple platforms, similar to smaller titles such as Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, and Pentiment. Yet, this seems different due to its larger scale.
Re-phrased statement: It’s significant for Microsoft to revisit their queue of games and make available one of the top Xbox exclusives ever made to PlayStation owners.
It seems inevitable that Master Chief will appear on a PlayStation or Nintendo gaming system soon.
