Just announced: A fresh content update for the game “Gran Turismo 7” is now available! This isn’t just about new vehicles and competitions in “Gran Turismo 7”, but also significant alterations to its racing physics mechanics.
Since the debut of Gran Turismo 7 in early 2022, its developer Polyphony Digital has been regularly delivering free content updates to players approximately every month. These updates typically include a few new vehicles (around three to four) and fresh events. However, significant updates for Gran Turismo 7 periodically arrive, offering more cars, modifications to the physics, new in-game features, and occasionally a brand-new racetrack. The most recent substantial update for Gran Turismo 7 was released in November 2024, introducing five new vehicles and enhancements for the PS5 Pro.
With the latest update, weighing at approximately 2.47GB on PS5 and 2.78GB on PS4, Gran Turismo 7 introduces four new vehicles: These include the 1987 Honda Civic (EF) Si Extra, 2018 Toyota C-HR S, 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5N, and the Gran Turismo F3500-A open-wheel racer. Furthermore, there are three new races added to the World Circuits section of Gran Turismo 7, a new Extra Menu Book focused on Group C racing cars, new engine swaps, and an updated “Chromatic Drive” Scapes collection. The Gran Turismo Sophy AI model has been expanded to include two additional circuits – Mount Panorama and Interlagos, bringing the total to 17 out of 39 racetracks supported.
Intriguingly, the latest update, version 1.55, brings significant modifications to the physics in Gran Turismo 7, focusing mainly on improvements to its tire and suspension systems. The cars’ suspension setups are now expected to respond more realistically to brief bumps, while the handling and loss of grip for tires in wet or dirty conditions have been fine-tuned. Additionally, tires will remove dirt more swiftly following off-road excursions. Notably, Polyphony Digital has also tinkered with steering geometry, traction control, and ABS intervention intensity within Gran Turismo 7. The game last underwent a physics revamp with Update 1.49 in July 2024, so it will be fascinating to observe how the alterations in Update 1.55 stack up.
“Gran Turismo 7” continues to be one of the most authentic racing games ever produced, and it’s impressive that Polyphony Digital is continually enhancing it with free updates. Simultaneously, this Tokyo-based studio is diligently working on the next installment of “Gran Turismo,” which could potentially appear towards the end of the PlayStation 5’s lifespan.
