As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement! Finally, the long-awaited Devil May Cry anime from Netflix has set its release date. It’s going to storm onto our screens on April 3, 2025, ready for us to binge!
Following the triumph and exceptional production of shows like Arcane and Castlevania, which are adaptations of well-known video game brands, Devil May Cry now finds itself in the position of having rather large footsteps to follow. However, this is a series known for rising to challenges.
Will Netflix’s Devil May Cry Anime Follow The Story From The Games?
The summary and the opening preview hint that the anime is an origins tale, following Dante as he journeys towards becoming the renowned and beloved demon hunter we all recognize.
In this animated reimagining by Adi Shankar, shadowy powers strive to create a bridge connecting our world with the realm of demons. Amidst the chaos stands Dante, a demon hunter who doesn’t realize that the destiny of both realms is tied to his own existence.
In the video game series, there isn’t much depiction of the regular human world. Instead, we mainly witness apocalyptic urban landscapes swarming with monsters. However, it seems that normal cities and societies are present somewhere. The upcoming anime trailer hints at showing more of what human society was like before the portal opened and caused all the turmoil.
From a timeline perspective, this anime appears most similar to the events portrayed in “Devil May Cry 3,” a prequel to the initial “Devil May Cry” game, which is widely regarded as the best in the series. However, it’s important not to expect a straightforward adaptation. Instead, think of it more along the lines of the “Castlevania” anime, where the narrative and characters are unique and self-contained, rather than being direct replicas of the source material.
