Boasting over three decades of production, “The Simpsons” continues to be an endless source of entertainment, albeit perhaps too much for some long-term viewers. Yet, those who have remained loyal to the Simpson family can attest that having more of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie isn’t really a bad thing at all. Fortunately, fans of “The Simpsons” have something exciting to look forward to in February.
On February 12th, a fresh installment of “The Simpsons” will debut exclusively on Disney Plus. This new episode, named “The Past and the Furious,” is similar to the season eight episode “The Old Man and the Lisa.” It revolves around Lisa Simpson and Springfield’s oldest resident, Mr. Burns. While we wait for the show to come back on TV in March, this episode might help keep fans entertained. Additionally, it could ease the disappointment caused by the closure of “The Simpsons Tapped Out!” game.
Time Tangle and Turmoil”
In this adventure titled “Time Tangle and Turmoil,” Lisa embarks on a journey to alter history, specifically traveling back to 1923 to prevent the extinction of the Springfield Mini Moose, an essential part of Springfield’s ecosystem. Unfortunately, the year 1923 finds her teaming up with an unconventional ally – a young Montgomery Burns. However, meddling with the past invariably brings about severe repercussions for the future. Given that “Time Tangle and Turmoil” bears similarities to “The Old Man and the Lisa,” it’s not hard to anticipate that Lisa’s actions benefiting Mr. Burns will likely result in trouble. This time, instead of using plastic six-pack holders to pollute marine life, Mr. Burns might be up to something far more sinister, with his insatiable greed and lack of moral compass being the constant.
It’s worth noting that a Simpson family member has previously ventured into time travel, such as in “Treehouse of Horror V” segment titled “Time and Punishment,” where Homer accidentally jumped through time while fixing the family toaster. This event led to significant alterations in the future, even resulting in a totalitarian dystopia governed by none other than Ned Flanders. Since these events are not considered canonical (although one might question the extent of serious canon in The Simpsons), it raises questions about whether Lisa’s upcoming time travel experience will be separate from regular episodes.
36 seasons into its run on Fox, “The Simpsons” continues to thrive, boasting a total of 781 episodes (as of December 29, 2024). Beyond television, the Simpson family and their Springfield neighbors have graced feature films and Disney Plus shorts. One such short, “The Longest Daycare,” even received a nomination for Best Animated Short Film. While opinions on the show’s current quality may differ among fans, these discussions have been ongoing since the dawn of internet message boards. Some devoted viewers claim that the series took a turn after season six. Regardless of personal opinions, it appears that “The Simpsons” has no plans to call it quits any time soon.
On February 12th, you can stream “The Fast and the Furious” on Disney Plus, as well as every other episode of “The Simpsons.
