Summary
- Xbox Game Pass is losing Darkest Dungeon and 5 other titles on January 31, doubling its total number of monthly departures.
- Microsoft’s subscription service added 13 new games in January 2025, making this the first month since July 2024 that it introduced more titles than it removed.
- The next wave of Xbox Game Pass releases is expected to be announced on or around February 4.
On January 31, it’s farewell to Xbox Game Pass for games like Darkest Dungeon and five others, making a total of six games leaving this month. This departure wave nearly doubles the total number of games that have parted ways with Xbox Game Pass in the year 2025.
Microsoft’s subscription service usually takes out games from its library at various points during and towards the end of each month. The latest removal occurred on January 15, with Xbox Game Pass saying goodbye to “Figment: Journey Into the Mind”, “Insurgency: Sandstorm”, and four additional titles.
Six more games are scheduled to launch later today, January 31. Among those departing soon are “Anuchard”, “Broforce Forever”, “Darkest Dungeon”, “Death’s Door”, “Maquette”, and “Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem”. In terms of critical praise, “Death’s Door” stands out as the most noteworthy exit for the service. With an 88 average rating and a 99% recommendation rate on OpenCritic, it ranks among the highest-rated Xbox Game Pass games at present.
Xbox Game Pass Games Leaving January 31, 2025
Game | Added | How Long To Beat |
---|---|---|
Anuchard | Feb 2024 | 7–10 hours |
Broforce Forever | Aug 2023 | 7–17.5 hours |
Darkest Dungeon | Jun 2021 | 57–129 hours |
Death’s Door | Jan 2022 | 9–15.5 hours |
Maquette | Jul 2023 | 3.5–5.5 hours |
Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem | Jul 2023 | 4.5–14 hours |
Microsoft typically doesn’t provide specific removal times ahead of Xbox Game Pass departures, but most games usually leave the service around the end of the day they’re scheduled to go. So, Xbox Game Pass subscribers on the West Coast have about 12 more hours as of now to play these soon-to-be-departed games. While it’s possible to finish many of them within this timeframe, it might be challenging to complete titles like Darkest Dungeon and Death’s Door due to their complexity.
Xbox Game Pass Content Catalog Has Finally Returned to Growth
Since summer 2024, Microsoft’s subscription service content catalog has been steadily decreasing. From August to December 2024, there were more games removed from Xbox Game Pass each month compared to those added. However, this trend is now coming to an end as today marks the 12th game removal in a row. On the other hand, Xbox Game Pass has welcomed 13 new titles since the beginning of January 2025. Most of these games were previously announced, with the exception of “Ninja Gaiden 2 Black,” which was unexpectedly released on January 23, immediately following its announcement at the Xbox Developer Direct 2025.
On February 4th, the XGP library will grow as it takes in “Far Cry New Dawn”. This is also the day when Microsoft is projected to reveal more titles from the initial wave of Xbox Game Pass releases for February 2025. In addition to “Far Cry New Dawn”, the subscription service has already confirmed another game for next month, Obsidian’s “Avowed”, which is set to debut on February 18th.
